Questions about a Nissan Partol

The other day I spotted an old(1960s?) Patrol with no rear axle sitting by a shed. Anyway I asked what was wrong with it and they told me just needs a rear axle. I don't know anything about patrols so I thought I would ask here:

1. How hard is it to find a replacement axle?
2. Where would a person look for rust on one of those things?
3. If it has and engine and very minor rust how much us it worth?
4. Anything in particular I should look for as far as years or features?

The kid that lives there wants one of my Landcruisers so I may be able to get it without spending a dime.

The stock axle is not easy to find, so you could use a nice d60 and call it a day. Rust is probly not a problem, after all it's not a Toyota or something. You should be able to get it for less than a couple grand IMO. Of course the last time I said that, some people got all crazy and thought they are worth 10's of thousands or something.

1. How hard is it to find a replacement axle?
if you know where to look and the right people it is easy. I have a front and rear for sale for cheap.
2. Where would a person look for rust on one of those things?
rust & rot is prone in the kick vent areas. Also the rear of the tub. Floor pans for obvious reasons. around seat belt mounts to either side of front seats. around rear jump seat mounts. and if it is a 69 on top of the fenders where mirros mount. all are easy to spot
3. If it has and engine and very minor rust how much us it worth?
without a good rear axle not a lot. with a good rear axle, nearly no rust, solid motor and good drivetrain easliy fetch $4-5k. restored or rebuilt P-trolls go for over $10k no probs.
4. Anything in particular I should look for as far as years or features?
Not really...PTO box and winch. 68/69's had an optional deluxe seats that is very rare and special. Ragtops are also very rare and special...

4.10 in the Patrol. There are a few minor things with fitting a FJ40 rear diff. Check my website/forum for detailed info on fitting this axle

TOATLLY WRONG and BAD info. A d60 is way wider than stock axle. You also need RHS drop and will need custom driveline. Gearing must also be the same or very close. Since a D60 is much wider if will give you big probs with your rear fenders not to mention look like total crap. Cutting rear fenders for big tires or an axle like a d60 will greatly reduce value of the vehicle.

Ohh your right, it looks like total crap on this one, and it is totally worthless now too because the fenders are not all stock and gay looking anymore.

Well you two love birds can stop spitting at one another for a while. I talked to the kid and his mom again today. He still wants my SOA fj40 really bad but he said that the patrol is Grampas and they estimated that it hadn't been ran in 17-20 years! he also said it has an inline six but it was a ford. I don't know if that is correct or not. I saw a in-line 6 ford engine that someone had bastardized into there fj40 in this same area. I hope the kid is just mistaken. Anyway I may try to help the kid get the thing running. BTW it has a pto winch on it!

So how much for that axle in Wyoming? Maybe I will tell the kid I will help him get the thing rolling vs buying my fj55.

Tred those are both pretty nice and capable looking vehicles. I used to work on old cars so I can understand both sides of the debate. To be honest from what little I saw of this vehicle it would be a better candidate for a restore than the torch. Ech vehicle needs to be evaluated by itself. I have a 55 that would be good for a resto and a 55 that needs the torch to make it inot a mud monster!

what is the point in your sarcasim?

Now picture that 60 under it with a stock front end that is normal width. Wouldn't look like crap!? Ok well to each their own.

Your choice of the term "worthless" is plain lame. I said it would be worth less $$$ wise with cut fenders and that is a true statement. Don't try and twist my words to make yourself look better or make me look worse. The Patrol you posted a picture of is not much of a Patrol anymore. For somebody wanting that type of vehicle it is valueable and I never said anything different. It was for sale and still may be, seems a nice clean fairly stock Patrol sells a lot faster than a hacked up one....and the fact remains clean unhacked Patrols fetch more money in resale. They also are increasing in value while the hacked modded ones just sit there in the same group as the rest of hacked up modded trucks. Regardless I posted factual info for the guy asking questions so what exactly are you contributing to his questions and need for info?

This is one of the most dead Nissan forums on the web, logic can explain that one for anyone who can grasp logic. It is posts like the one you just did and people acting like you that make this forum LAME!

And it is people like you and comments like that one that do make it worth my while to drop by Pirate4x4 a few times a year! Nice to see a post on the subject of Patrols here that contains some sort of sense...
