Navistar Diesel Titan!
I read that Nissan has a deal with Navistar International to make diesel engines for the Titan Heavy Duty. That just fn rocks! I guess International is still good friends with Nissan after a long time has passed since Nissan built diesels for International Scouts.

That is cool, but I was hoping Nissan would make their own diesel engine for the Titan that would just destroy the big 3.

the only thing I know is what I read posted on a Nissan board. Here is the quote from someone who I think works at the Smyrna plant. Nissan has signed an agreement with Navistar International to use one of their engines for the Diesel.
From what I understand and have been told, it will not be a PowerStroke knockoff. It will have plenty of HP and Torque.. And the Weak Link will be the Tranny.. The Engine will be detuned from International, so that it won't kill the tranny to quickly. That being said, it should be pretty easy to get that power back with some ECU Programming.. Cliff

The only 2 engines I could see them using would be the VT 275(4.5L V6) or the VT 365 (Powerstroke base) the DT 466 is too big/heavy. Or is it going to be a all new engine?

There is still the T444E which according to internationls stats is a couple lbs lighter than the VT365, although the T444E weight is dry.

turn of events
This is really strange, I mean my International (Navistrar) Scout came stock with a Nissan diesel and now Nissan may be offering a stock Nissan with an IH diesel. Strange world we live in. I have always liked the Titan and if they go with either the VT365 or the 444E I will like it even more.

The T444E won't meet upcoming emissions standards and would "appear" to be a step backwards in the eyes of the public. Before someone gives me crap I LIKE the T444E as I have owned a few and still currently have one.

Well the VT365 sure won't cut it if people find out it's relationship to the Ford motor.. god forbid someone has to replace an injector pump or oil pump on one... if they would only bring back the DT(A)360

FWIW, the T444E is also a PITA to replace the oil pump on. I believe it requires pulling the engine. The injector pump is right up front and not too hard to replace.
Sources are saying that the International motor to be used will be the twin turbo V-6 Navistar VT275. This is the same engine that Ford was going to put into its F150s until the project was abandoned not too long ago. |

Cliff doesn't work for Nissan, that much I do know. I passed that word that Navistar was supplying the diesel to a Nissan master tech I know. He said that's not correct, he hears it's being supplied by Renault and was pretty adamant about it... I tend to believe the Navistar rumor... Either way, good to see the diesel is coming, regardless of who builds it! Brent |

Brent, you are correct, I don't work for International, But I do have family that does.. The info I have given has come directly from an International Rep... As I have already stated, From what I have been told, the agreement with International has already been finalized. But, Time will tell, so until it's actually in the showrooms, or officially on the Nissan website, we won't know for sure..
