I have a complete 350z sitting behind my garage. I want to put it in my 94 D21 4x4, but I want to make sure I will be able to keep my 4x4 without spending a ton of money. Does anyone think this would be worth doing or would it be a waste of time and money.
You will spend a ton of money doing that, but it would be kinda cool. I believe its been done before but it requires a big body lift, or no inner fenders or a huge cowl on the hood because the motor is much wider than what came stock.
From the sound of your first post I dont think you want to undertake a project of that size
the VQ35 is smaller then the VG30 V6 that came in the hard bodies. but it makes all its power on the upper end not down low. IMO get a KA24 from a 240sx or frontier and built that up for the truck along with killing the IFS
The only way it will fit and work correctly is to spend a ton of money.
No, you are not going to swap this in with a $20 shoehorn bracket.
Basic steps;
Get the engine out along with all the wiring and other stuff to make it run. Get it running while it is sitting on the ground.
Stuff the engine into the truck and put all the working wiring in as well.
Now for the 4WD part. Stick? Maybe a way, but none off the top of my head. Auto? OK, there is a chance. The 350Z has a differnet bellhousing then say a VQ40, but the same basic transmission. So take the 350Z auto and a Frontier/Xterra 5-speed auto to a trans shop and have them put the front of the 350Z and the Back of a 4WD truck. No you are not done yet. The 350Z won't know to talk to the transfer case and it is electrically shifted anyway, so order up an Atlas.
A hack job will cost you an easy $5k and be complete junk. Figure a decent conversion using your free 350Z and being cheap about it will still be $10k+.
I think I will forget about that project. I appreciate everyone's input. I think I will just part the car out and do something else to the truck.
