Last week our family stayed a cabin on Kentucky Lake that belongs to my wife's great uncle. We fished the shore all week, and between me and the kids, we probably caught 100+ fish over 4 or 5 days of fishing. Most were small, but some were decent. Some of the best:

The reality is - most were like this... but we were catching so many it really didn't matter

Good year so far for me.
Axis in velvet

Old whitetail and a Bobcat. Cat came out of the brush about 2 minutes after the deer hit the ground thinking he had a free meal.

Freezer is just about full. All from this year and all wild game. 13 cubic feet worth.

Where'bouts? We took one day to visit the homestead, and the bison and elk plains, as well as just drive through the park.

Been pulling Crappie out left and right. Got 45 Monday night in two hours, most were too small to keep. Water is still 40* and the big fish havent moved up yet. Over 200 for the year with 20 keeper sized. Most are like this. Still a blast though!

Nice. Never caught me a crappie before. Never caught a bass of any real size either. One of these days I will meet someone who can. Then ply them with beer and such.

Another slowish day. Motor died. We were stranded for a bit. Then it kicked for no reason. Yeah! For two strokes.

My opening day bird.
Was going to try and mount the hide like the bottom pic, but decided to do the fan and wings seperate then place on the wall. Got them cleaned and drying right now. In a month, I will see how the wings turn out. Have done tons of fans before but never the wings...

What a Blessed year 2012 Turkey Season was this year!!!

First bird was my daughter's first turkey during youth season.

2nd and 3rd were the first double I've had the pleasure to take and share with my brother Mark. Three came in, one left.

4th was two coming in, one leaving with me.

5th was a evening hunt, drumming behind me, but no show until 2 /2 hours later.

6th was a bird called in for my brother Mark

7th was one of the best hunts for gobbling. Shot this bird, and had 2 more come in gobbling 5 minutes after the shooting, and I watched them leave, gobbling all the way off.

8th was a friend's son's first bird, called in with the two of them in front of me, side by side. He was using Faith's gun.

9th was my biggest of the year, and came within 7 feet of another brother of mine directly to his right side, a week earlier, but he wasn't able to get a shot.

10th was called in on a new piece of property for another brother of mine, Brian.

Thank you Lord for good friends, the memories made, and the opportunities to see your creations, as we hunt!!

God Bless,
David B.

I went out to one of the local strip mines I've posted pics of before so you might recognize the dock. We went out Saturday for about an hour and each caught around 10 fish, mostly bass and a couple crappie. Threw all those back as I wasn't really expecting to catch much being there for such a short time. Sunday we took my boy out there for less than an hour. The bass were hitting hard with the warm weather and a tstorm rolling in fast.

Fishing out of the canoe with a texas rigged plastic worm, I set the hook in to a bigger one. I was saying ,"Oh baby. Oh baby it's a big one. This one's a monster." This was according to my nine year old. The fish headed out to deeper water after being hooked <5' from shore. He started pulling drag immediately. I'm using a 6'6" medium heavy bait caster with 14 or 20 lb braid. He only swam side to side a few times before coming to the surface so we could get a look at him. He jumped and I swore he was a 10 lb fish.

Now it was on. I needed to land this fish. I hadn't gained any ground yet. He never circled round behind the boat or made much of a run to front, but was still doing his best to get free on the side and towards the back of the canoe in deeper water. I finally was able to get a couple cranks of the reel on him and figure things out. 9 year old in the front of the boat that can't reach the net. Dang So now I wait until I can one hand the pole while keeping the line tight on my prize fish. I grab the net with my right hand, trying frantically to dump the throwable pfd out of it. It's out! Now to get the fish boat side. A little bit more playing and quite a few more cranks on the reel and I dipped out my big ol bass.

I screamed. A couple times. I was excited. Then I started realizing it might not be the 10 lbs I though. Or 8 lbs. No matter, I was champion of this fish. At 21 1/4 inches and 6 1/4 lbs it is my best bass by over 2 lbs. Very good day.

I tried to get him to hold it, but he declined.

First trip out this year antler hunting. We had a dry warm winter and I don't think the elk hung out where they usually do because I didn't see a single fresh shed.

I've been fishing a few times in the past couple weeks. Last Saturday night we got on the water at about 7:30 pm. Surprisingly Bradley caught a walleye wacky worming in a deepish hole. Maybe 14 or 15 inches. His first walleye ever. His is the one in the picture. Not 2 minutes later I hooked one with a texas rigged worm in the same hole. Mine was about 17". Bradley threw a jitterbug a lot for the first time. The first fish to hit the jitterbug was a crappie. It hit it so hard the fish was airborne for second. It was his first crappie. He also caught a few bass and a bluegill on the top water. I caught a few bass and bluegill, mostly with the worm, some on topwater. We kept 2 bass, 2 bluegill, and the crappie.

This picture shows the jitterbug if you've never seen one.

Last night I was on the same lake in a canoe by myself. After working over an hour to get a backlash out, , I caught a 13" walleye in a different hole, a single crappie by a tree, and over a dozen bass along with 3 bluegill. My dad and an old guy tried for a long time to find the crappie using tiny jigs but settled for the 25+ bluegill they filled the cooler with. Not keeping all the bass or their bluegill, I had way more fish to put in the freezer than ever before. We don't keep the walleye, and I really hope I pull a big one out of that lake in future years.
