OSP Asking For Public's Help in Central Oregon Illegal Deer Poaching Case (Photo) - 01/11/12
Oregon State Police (OSP) Fish & Wildlife Division is asking for the public’s help to identify the person(s) responsible for illegally killing a 4-point buck found shot Wednesday and left to waste in central Oregon. A reward of up to $250 is offered for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in this case.

On January 11, 2012, OSP Sergeant David Pond was patrolling between Green Ridge and Lake Billy Chinook on US Forest Service Road 1170 in the Metolius Unit when he found a 4-point buck shot dead and left to waste about sixty yards from the road. The buck appears to have been killed between Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning. The weapon used may be similar to a high caliber rifle.

Pond is asking for the public’s help for any information regarding vehicles observed in the area, even if no license plate information was obtained, or if they know of persons who may have been out in that area with a rifle.

Anyone with information is asked to call Sergeant Pond at (541) 388-6213 ext. 2240, or the OSP Turn-In-Poacher (TIP) line at 800-452-7888.

Fucking idiots. Great looking animal just shot and left there. Well this and many other reasons. It's the thrill kill people, or the people that have to have a trophy buck, so the take it out of season or with no tags. What good is that, anytime anyone asks about it, you get to recount the some lie. What kind of worthless man are you to have to lie to impress people? We had a group here in Oregon, a family that took over 300 animals illegally. Shit just pisses me off.

Not true. Depends who owns the property and if it was the property owner that shot the deer, and they had the proper property rights.

Good call, owner preference tags are good until February sometime. However, this is public land and I'd guess plenty far from any private owner preference land.

Down here the poachers are known to a lot of people but the government is only now starting to go after them, they not only ruin potential hunts for others but make all of us look like gun toting hill billies with no respect for the law, they are not hunters and deserve all the law throws at them

My girlfriend grew up in chiloquin. She said one day she saw an entire herd of blacktail just dead in the field, with only the backstraps gone. disgusting.

From what i understand, indians are allowed to shoot a metric shitload of deer per year, which is poaching for the white devil.

Law enforcement seldom catches them. They are the idiots that ride around at night, spot light deer, shoot, and don't even walk over to look at what they shot.

There was an article in the news here about two guys poaching. They got caught by using dna to link blood from the kill site to the meat in his freezer. He got fined $13,000.

I'm not saying that it's right, but at least they didn't just leave it there to waste.

I've got some land about a hundred miles south of this story and the indians in that area poach year in the fashion you mention. But right before hunting season they seem to go out and have a huge slaughter just so the evil white man cant get his...

poaching we stumbled upon near a job site WAY out in the sticks. i think someone forgot one of the three s's.







we went back to that site about a month later and all that was left was the tail.
