how much should you keep on hand in case of emergency or SHTF? i know in the SHTF case cash isnt really going to be good for anything than starting a fire.

i have a family of 4 and just wondering what is a good amount.

I have 5 at home and have 1k in a water tight box buried near my property. Along with a few other essentials. I have easy concealed access to this location.

If SHTF I have a CC with a 5k cash advance and will drawl from that before I get my cash. Honestly if it all goes south fawk silver and gold you cant eat silver and gold. CC's and cash will still be accepted as long as there is power. If there is no power your already to late, have it on hand now.

Have at least 30 days food and water on hand,if possible, at all times, gas to fill your tank and ammo that you normally shoot in 6 months. If you have that you are ahead of the game and prepared for almost anything.

Pretty much my thoughts.
I always have some "walking around money".
It pays well. Several times a year I meet someone that needs cash fast.
I have bought some guns and other stuff cheap because they were up against it.

You need cash on hand to take advantage of deals. If you have to go get cash, you will miss the deal.

Secondary, you need cash on hand in case something happens to your finances. I have had the bank make several mistakes over the years. One time they "lost my deposit". I've had my card crap out on me, I've have been to several gas stations that "their machine was broken" and couldn't take cards.

So it is a good idea to have cash on your person, and cash that is readily available for emergencies. How much depends on you and your situation.
I feel $1k is a minimum.

Cash is King. Good deals and emergencies don't always follow Bank Hours and ATM limits. I don't carry a large amount daily, but keep it readily available.
