Ok done did the 1911 thing
I must say I loved shooting my Grandpa's Colt 1911 as a kid, treated it like crap and it never gave me a second of grief. I am sure it was a big $$$ weapon. Well now many years later I have picked up the weapons bug, great hobby.
I have ended up with a couple of 1911's one an American Classic, yeah go ahead and flame away, the other an SA Compact. We won't even talk about the AC, however I paid a few $$$ for the SA plus a few hundred more in rounds to "break it in". Loved the way it shoots, hate the way it jams....... Talked to the Range Master, he shows me his CCW a Kimber 1911 compact. He tells me it took 500 plus rounds before he could count on it. Thats crap if you ask me? I want out of the box ready to go, never an issue kinda like my G23 but not a 2 x 4. I am all about the 45 round but not willing to spend big $$$ to have a full size, heavy ass, and too nice to drop on the ground weapon. My question is what direction to go next??? What dose PBB have to say about the HK45? Pass on the Glock, What else should I be looking at? Thanks all. |

My USP .45 has been flawless. There's a little info here: /forum/outdoor-sports-recreation/1054124-my-osr-edumacationing-1911s.html

I love my Xd-45 compact, I put some XS Big dot sights on it. It has always gone bang and never ever had a hiccup.

All the capacity of a 1911, and all the size of the Glock 21.
Though the single action only target version (elite?) is pretty pimp. Last edited by TheRedHorseman; 03-22-2012 at 04:01 PM. |

I like the HK, but I have big hands, as in, I wear a XXXL motorcycle glove. If a person has smaller hands, I wouldn't recommend the .45. It is a full sized pistol, without a doubt. I trust it, I'd carry it anywhere. I traded a XD for it and didn't look back, but the mags for it are spendy and it has a good bit of heft to it. It has fired all the different types of ammunition I have run without a hiccup. I'm thinking around 2-3K total. FMJ, HP... most reputable brands, more than half the round count has been milsurp fmj. Zero issues. I"ve run it clean, dirty, muddy, and everything except mud in the barrel. It's my pistol to take when I know that I'm going to get really dirty. I have no complaints and hopefully, I'll swap out to a threaded barrel and get a can for it.

I have 2 SA's, a milspec and and a Trophy Match. Some of the SA are pretty tight when they leave the factory, lube it up and try a different brand of ammo. The milspec did not like the WWB stuff when new, so I change brands and after about 500 rounds it shoots without a hiccup.
Go out and shoot it. by the way, the SA's come with a full lifetime warrantee. Give 'em a call.

No matter what I did, the XD would not hold a group as well as another pistol. I'm 100% sure it wasn't me either. This went on for a week or more. I had enough and swapped it for the HK. Might have been the one bad pistol they've ever made, but it left me not wanting another.

I just love my Xd compact 45 pistol, I have nothing to compare it too. The only other 45 I ever shot was a modified Colt Gold Cup 45, that would not be fair to compare it to my Xd, the Colt Gold Cup was one Sweeeeeet shooter!

I nkow I know, flame away, but I'd look at the RIA 1911. They cannot be beat for the money for a entry level 1911. and it is milspec, so all of the great aftermarket parts can be dropped in as well.
Just expect to pick up a $350 RIA 1911, put $1000 of parts it over a couple of years, and still only have a $400 RIA.

I have a Kimber Ultra, no jams ever and worth the price tag. My next choice would probably be a SIG.
There is a lot of good 1911's built now days in the reasonable price range, and lots of people know how to make them run.
