I do a lot of my local business with Bill's Custom Automatics. I'm not pimpin their shit, just some pics of neat stuff that may not be common to everyone.

Tim Thompson is Bill's son and a hell of a smith... He's cool with me getting lowers shipped to him from John (thanks again) and is always interested in what I'm doing, building, shooting, etc. Good people, never pushy on sales, and very up front on what he sells, costs, and all that jazz.

Anyway, here's piktoors of some stuff and a new project for me. Caspian frame and slide, unfitted. I'm gonna build it from the ground up.

I'm not gonna get wordy with the pics, ask iff'n you wanna know.

Lastly, my frame and slide. I forgot the barrel mfg already. The only work I can't do is to cut the sight slots.

I have a 1911 that is almost finished. It is a Caspian frame and an IMI nm slide, barrel and bushing.

6" and really, really nice. Slide is tight, but not binding, trigger is silky and crisp, yet light. The only thing I didn't like was the extended beavertail. It makes one handed de-cocking a little iffy.

That .50 cal barrel weighed in at an even 25 lbs!

I'm kinda wanting to do a TiNi coating on the Caspian when I get done but am clueless at the moment on who/where applies this in the aftermarket world.

The solution to that problem is don't try to de-cock the pistol.

Agreed...no reason to put the hammer down on a live chamber, unless you are shooting.

Looked around their site a little...seems like some cool stuff.

I usually don't on a live round. I hate dry firing a pistol and am in the habit of lowering the hammer when I put one away unloaded. Habit...

So what do you do with a glock, xd, or other striker fired pistol? What about an AR?

Clear the chamber, put in safe. I understand the difference, but like I said, its just a habit. Dumb habit? Maybe, but I've always done it with our pistols, levers, old shotguns...
