S&W 1911s

What's everyone think about the new Smith 1911 "E" series? I'm looking at the Commander length bobtail...

$1075 at my LGS. A bit pricey, but decent for a semi custom 1911...

I just don't know if an external extractor belongs on a 1911.

Can't stand the external extractor. Just picked up a Dan Wesson Guardian for 1250 and it's an amazing piece of work. I looked at the Smith, but putting the two side by side at the store with the same price tag, there was no comparison.

It's a lightweight commander length bobtail with everything I wanted and nothing I didn't. It's also true to form with no weird 80 series safeties, just thumb, grip and disconnector as well as a standard Gi guide rod setup, no MIM parts, and a flat 4lb trigger pull out of the box.

Then Smith and Wesson it is. It's a nice gun and well fit.

I have that same commander length in my shop right now except the slide is black. Its a sweet little number. External extractor works really well on the Sig Sauers so I imagine it works well for the smiths

what ever those things are, they look stupid. Ruined a already good looking gun.

I think a .45acp 1911 should have vertical serrations and not 45 degree or ugly fish scales.

Bobbed hammers are required with most (if not all) beavertails. Also, the vast majority of quality aftermarket hammers are of the bobbed/commander type.

I understand needing the bobbed hammer with the beavertail, I was more commenting on the GIANT beavertail, maybe I should've cap'd the giant instead of the and.

I, personally, learned early in my shooting career how to hold a 1911 without getting bit. I think it was my third trigger pull that got me and I adjusted accordingly and to this day prefer the stock look (gi) to the modified. My hands are meaty in the area where you would get bitten by a 1911, if I wear the grip wrong my hand will get bit. And by wrong the difference is just a bit and might even feel more comfortable... comfortable 'till I pull the trigger that is

Good friend of mine has one of these. His has the scandium? frame I believe. Pretty light and shot well for me. He has had no problems out of it. Nice fit and finish on it too.
