Making a quality can than can be sold for under $100 is tough.

If you can do a run of 75 to 100 at a time it helps keep costs down.

Well someone's paying attention to their FB because my post asking what's up with the lack of communication was deleted within 10 minutes or so.

So, these guys were at the Silencers are legal shoot in Texas a while back. They made posts on another board about their 99.00 deal. There were post from a few saying how good these were, there were also post saying they never saw them. (1st hmmmm)
They have a FB page and a basic web site.
I called them asked the right questions and Rob gave the right answers. Lorie answers the phone. She gave me their whole life history, she loves to talk.
I placed an order for 12.
I asked for video of the cans, they hadn't made any yet. (2nd Hmmmmm)
Part of what she told me had to do with Robs being stationed down here in the Marines.

So I made a couple of posts on a local board for a preorder. One of the guys who wanted one asked for the makers info, I gave it to him.
I get an email from him, all excited because he served with Rob. Lorie emails me and needs to talk to me so I call. Rob is excited about his buddy and wants to do a custom ser # for him. Cool. And while they're at it I get an extra can. cool. Oh, by the way, your CC didn't go through, she's tried twice. Give her the info again and she had the wrong zip code. No biggie.

She's telling me she can't give me ser# until they come back from the engraver. (3rd Hmmmmmmmmmmm) But OK, maybe its just how they do it. She'll have them for me by the end if the week. Cool.

Up to that point, they had answered emails and the phone every time I called.

Since that time, nothing. No emails or phone calls. Not one

So now, fuck SILENT RX, SILENTRX,

What was your timeline on the last time you spoke to them? I spoke to Lorie 8 days ago to tell her I needed two more, and she took down the order but never hit my card.

Their website looks like it was made by a 3rd grader, and has more paint-ball pictures than suppressor pictures, that right there should have been your sign that the company was either a scam, or a seriously half-assed business.

Looking at can design, I could knock those out for $50-60 fully anodized and in some nice professional looking packaging. If you can get a thick wall tube to start with, and make both ends screw-on, there's very little machine time, $10-15 in material, $80 would cover the anodizing on about 50 of them, throw in a couple O-rings and you're set. Mite even be able to make them for less if I made enough to justify custom tooling to speed up production. Now somebody talk Ca into allowing suppressors and I'll get my ducks in a row and make them.

Ca does allow supressors, IF you are a FFL/07 SOT, AND you get the "Dangerous Weapons Permit" which is completely discretionary. The DOJ has denied the 7 manufacturers I've talked to about it, so, good luck.

Actually, read up on the permit. IF you get one, you expressly give up ANY right to privacy, and you expressly consent to search at any time. The vehicle you use to convey any "DWP" items around is listed on the permit, and is only allowed in that vehicle. Likewise, the place they are stored is listed, and only that place may be used. If you get a flat tire on the listed vehicle, you may not jump in your other pickup and transport. If you do, your permit will be revoked, and you are subject to charges.

True, I guess should have been more clear, I can't reasonably have or produce a suppressor. There's actually a shop around the corner from ours that has their DWP and he's got a few cans that I've shot on his indoor range. A Mosquito with a can is fawking rad! I get to play with some cool toys through my company, anything else I want to play with, I just pop in around the corner and trade welding for range time with their FA, DD, and otherwise "evil" stuff.

It's just not worth the effort for a side business, and I'm not willing to give up that much personal privacy to obtain it even if I were looking to go full time. Same with getting my 01, pretty sure I could do it, just not worth it. I'll stick to only making guns for myself and custom parts (everything but receivers) for other people.

I haven't been able to contact them since 7-17. They have had my money since May for a dozen cans. The admins @ NFAtalk have locked the Silentrx section because they haven't been able to make contact for a long time.

I did find the notice (9-21-11) where they and the owner of the property where they "manufacture" were requesting a zoning variance for the business. That seems to me like a lot of bullshit to go through if it was all setup as a scam. I've got the contact info of the landowner so I think I'll give him a call and see what he knows or what he will tell me.

^^^ This would be awesome info. While I'm pretty sure we're screwed, I don't think it began as a scam- it just turned into one when they couldn't meet demand.

I got in contact with the landowner of their "manufacturing facility". He said that Elgie had two partners in the business which he drove out wanting to do it himself. He said he hasn't seen him in months.

I also contacted the ATF in FT Wayne, IN.

I think it is time to consider filing complaints against these people. If anyone would like to know how to go about it and what little I learned PM me your email address and I'll send it to you.
