7.62x40WT
Wilson Combat has not been able to deliver a barrel. I ordered two, got one in, the other is still on backorder. Order was placed Feb 27, so about four and a half months have gone by and nothing. Their website says all .300 blk barrels are on backorder.
Wilson took the 7.62 in a 5.56 case a step further and came out with the x40. As I read it, the oal on the case is longer and the rib in the front of an AR mag would interfere, otherwise, it's the same handloading process. Cut, trim, load. The ballistics look a little better and I can't quote them off the top of my head, but it's 2-300 fps more. The downside... the rib in the front of the case. Lancer systems is making a de-ribbed (not for her pleasure) mag in 20/30 rds for them. The mags are a little over $20 at this time. I think I can live with that. Any reason why I should not call them Monday and tell them to get me a WT barrel? EDIT: The barrel I did recieve is on the rifle I built for my little sis... and that fawker is hawt pank... like, toymoto's boots hot pink. I have had no issues with it and after the first two shots and a little CLP, it runs fine.

125 gr (8.1 g) OTM 2,215 ft/s (675 m/s) 1,360 ft·lbf --- .300 blk
125 gr (8.1 g) Speer TNT 2,400 ft/s (730 m/s) 1,598 ft·lbf --- 7.62x40WT Just yanked that from Wiki as a comparison... not 2-300 fps more as I stated above, but that little bit of extra case makes room for a little more umph. I can't tell you squat about the powders that were used, so I don't know how much of a difference that would make. Maybe one of you handloaders can plug it into a calculator of some sort?

I did some reading on it when Rifle Shooter magazine did an article on it. To me it seemed more like an ego stroke then an attempt to offer something new, different and needed.

I'm getting a little impatient with their lack of contact or shipping of my barrel. Using it for a brush gun (I already built the lower and most of the upper) for deer, a little extra fps/ftlb wouldn't hurt. I don't know if the difference in ballistics is enough to matter much, but a little more than what I had has never hurt before.

Looks like this is getting dumped already by Wilson Combat.

I'm getting the lower receiver back from the anodizer and lower parts kit for my build next week. After that I just need a carbine buffer tube and stock and it will be for sale. DPMS 16" upper on a Tactical Machining TM10 lower. I got a good deal on everything and I'm going to pass it on. Keep an eye out in the for sale section if you're interested.
So did wilson actually make and sell anything in the 7.62x40 then? Last edited by spork2367; 08-02-2012 at 12:25 PM. |

I got off that horse a little while after I got home. Never called them and I can wait if I need to. I need to focus on a couple of other things like the accumulation of:
ammo lowers mags *just in case. Actually, if my nephews can prove themselves responsible, I'll build each of them an AR. I'm not telling them that they're being graded on their behavior. In other words, I doubt I'll be building them rifles...... but I'm thinking about it.
