I had a 24" bull barrel and while it was super accurate, it was limited in its uses. Its getting rebarreled with a 18" WOA barrel

Well I didn't make it down to the gun show. My coworker who I was going with pulled the "I gotta watch the kids card". I knew he would. So anyways I loaded up the wife and kid. We took a trip down south to the gun store. I was going with full intentions of buying all the parts and building it from scratch. But I was also I a $1200 budget. I ended up buying a Rock River Arms Tactical Operator II, 5.56mm NATO, 16 inch barrel with a 1/9 right hand twist, RRA flip front sight gas block assembly and fixed adjustable rear sight, RRA two stage trigger, RRA winter trigger guard, ERGO sure grip pistol grip, RRA Operator CAR stock buttstock.

Only thing I don't like is the 16" barrel. But I can always change that out later. And I can't pick it up until Thursday.

Please tell me that for 1200$ you also got a couple cases of ammo with that upper.

this has been the case since the CO shooting. people are asking 1200 dollars for a 750 dollar gun. I've seen so much of this lately, I'm tired of it. I can usually find a dealer for 150 to 200 less than just about anything on Armslist for my area these days.

This wasn't 1200 for a complete gun either.

RRA has been outrageously priced ever since they won that DEA contract.

Well not all of $1200 but $1149 otd. Comes with a case too. I paid $50 about RRA's asking price but I don't think that included a case.

Yes, but RRA's are not worth what they ask.

If we don't pay it, the prices will drop.

Is anything these days?

I don't. I'm sure I paid a bit more than its worth, but it's a nice AR, has a bunch of upgrades already. Someday I'll put a piston drive on it and change out the barrel, but it's a good starting platform, IMO

What's wrong with the barrel, exactly?

I fail to understand why you bought it?
For the same price you could have a higher quality rifle with an 18" barrel.

Why ask for advice and then go off on your own and buy something that wasn't even recommended? Or the length of barrel you wanted?

What's the rollmark on the otherside of the mag well? Is it white as well?

I really can't bag on his rifle, I'm only into mine for about half what he paid

To build this one it would of been more. Goto RRA website and price out the pieces. I was there almost ready to buy everything but I ran over my budget. Plus they only had 16"barrels. I don't know what has happened to the prices lately. Hell even my mp15-22 has gone up in price $225.

So it came down to budget. Mine ran out, sorry. It's my money not yours and ill spend it however I want. I can change the barrel out later. It's only money.

This one isn't that bad. Already has a trigger job, upgraded stock, grip, alluminum not plastic quad rail, upgraded sights, muzzle flash. It was cheaper for me to buy one already semi built and then modify it later. This way I have a rifle ready to go, right now. If I want more distance I'll change out the barrel, but lets see what this is capable of first.

I think the 16" might outshoot you.

A 12" target at 600 yards is 2 MOA. A 16-18" 1/7 shooting 69g SMKs will do this. I would consider:

16-18" White Oak Armory mid length gas
BCM or LMT or similar quality BCG
And upper receiver.
12" light weight free float (carbon fiber, YHM custom, Midwest, or the new Alpha)

Find a lower on sale and pick up an lpk and stock.

Upper will probably be 7-800. You can do the lower for 200-250. You might want to think about a good trigger, another 150-200

Sorry man, not trying to spend your money.
You asked a question in post #1, had some requirements for what you are looking for, then got something that doesnt meet those reqs. So was confused.
RRA is not high end, they over charge for what they are. That's all.
