ok so lets say you take this one

http://www.jsesurplus.com/rockrivera...eceiver-1.aspx

There's $715 plus shipping and whatever fee's But for this lets stick with $715. So to convert this one to what I bought you would need...

RRA Quad rail $135
Two stage RRA trigger $120.00
Winter trigger Guard $15
Flip front sight $90
RRA rear sight $110
egro grip $22
LAR-8 Operator CAR Stock Kit $145
Flash suppressor $20?? Cant find a price but I'll be conservative.

That's $657 in parts to convert that $715 basic AR to what I bought for $1149 after taxes, out the door. So to start with a basic platform it would of cost $223 more plus taxes and shipping. I figured this out at the store. Just in parts of what I wanted I was way over my budget.

So IMO I feel I got a decent deal. It may not be the best but it's certainly not the worst AR out there. I never planned on spending $2500 for an AR. If it works, no jams, ect. Then it's good enough for me. I wont be out in some shoot em up comp, I'm way to out of shape for that. This will be for shooting targets and crap.

Hell, if it was spec'd exactly the way he wanted it then I don't think it was a horrible deal. My taste in AR's is so far from ordinary that I always build mine, and they all end up costing me more than that (granted, I use higher end components).

I think you got a good deal, it's a good rifle in my opinion. My RRA has been just dandy for everything I've needed, and served my uncle well at a shooting comp he took it to. Enjoy it man.

Personally I really like the RRA two stage trigger, hell maybe I just don't know any better.

Your using a straw man argument here. No one is suggesting to buy a complete AR and then parts to convert it. You posted a simple request/spec for an AR. I listed all the parts to build a HIGH quality AR to meet your needs, the barrel and BCG were higher quality then the RRA parts. And the price was comparable to what you spent.

No you didn't get crap. But you did over spend for what you got. RRA charges too much. End of story. The exact same rifle with out the RRA rollmarks would be in the 900$ range.

You spent your money and you are happy, cool. I am just posting this information so that others understand the options.

Know what? Have fun.

You'll learn a bunch about AR's. Clean it frequently, tear it down and put it back together, just because. You'll see that they're complex and elegant designs, but not terribly complex to put together. I'll bet you build your 2nd one.

I bought my 1st, built my 2nd.

... and my 3rd, 4th, and 5th and making plans for one like this, then another like that, then a pistol, then one that does other things...

8 years light infantry/commo in the Army, I know all about cleaning these fuckers. I know you guys were just giving me advice and input and I greatly appreciate it. If I would of ordered it from online I know I could of built one cheaper with mixed matched components. But when I get a wad of cash and it's expendable and I want an AR, it's not going to last long in my pocket. Hell I damn near spent it building a 10/22 with the Bullpup stock I have laying around. The last time I shot a 5.56 was 13 years ago. I missed it, I wanted an AR. To me I didn't need a high-end AR. Maybe later when I find a reason I don't like this one I'll build another, or I'll just modify this one.

No harm guys, I appreciate your input.
