pussy you can go to a gunshow and get a "legal" AK but it will mostlikely be low cap mags (easy to fix with a dremel tool) but the quality and finish wont be near as nice as one you make.

thant and i know of noone who is making AMD 65's for sale...well under $700 for sale

I see that the second site has ar 80% cast lowers. Have any clue as to how hard they are to finish? And if I were to follow through with being ultra cheap, where is the cheapest I can find a barrel/stock/upper? I'd like to see just how little I can spend to build one, but it's been a few years since I've really researched it all. Hef? doc?

Don't buy an 80% lower if you don't have the milling machinery and some skills. Do yourself a favor and buy a stripped lower. When money allows buy your lower parts kit, and then a complete upper, and then your stock and handguards. This is the most common approach to an AR build and requires the least amount of time and money invested.

Try Cheaperthandirt.com or gunsnstuffonline.com , or look up Model 1 Sales.

Keep in mind that not all lowers will work with all uppers, as designs vary. Check before you buy. You can build a decent AR for about $500. You can build a real nice AR for about $700, optics not included.

Get an HBAR. Gov't profile barrels flex and warp.
A3 flattop receiver is better for optics mounting.
Get a Hogue grip. It's a whole lot more comfortable.

Thanks Doc! When I get through building my AR (whenever my upper kit gets here) I will have to get started on an AMD-65. Your guide will be just the ticket. If anybody here really wants to see how an AR goes together from parts I can take pics, but doubt I will do any better than AR-15.com does here
My first build will be a simple A-3 style rifle, with the kit from J&T Distributing and a lower from Olympic Arms (just down the road from me). I can't wait to get it all together and hit the range

so just out of curosity why would you tell the gubment anything? or do they do random checks of manufacturers/importers records to see who they sold too?

You are my hero. I was looking through that site all night looking for some information and couldn't find it and couldn't find a fawking search feature and one of the links has the info I was looking for.

The search feature at AR15.com doesn't even work unless you sign up, and sucks ass unless you pay up. I really don't get the point of it, it would be like telling all the newbies they can't search and have to ask all the dumb questions over and over. There is a buttload of info over there though, both AR and AK, and if you live in the PNW (sorry Bubba) there is the Olympic site here . I love evil guns, too bad WA is nazis about SBRs or I would do the paperwork and build a proper 14.5" M4A1

I was wondering about that. I signed up hoping I would be able to search, but getting approval I guess is gonna take forever. But then again, why should I ever doubt the PBB???????????

yes once in a while they do. like if someone buys 50-60 AK recievers it might attract attention (the BATF just sees the numbers as 50 AK's going to one guy not recievers) even tho the guy is just getting ready to sell at the gun shows

but unless you piss them off nothing usualy happens about anything.

but if you build your own reciever you dont have to tell anyone shit

I also have my eye on a pimped out Model 70 sniper rifle in 300 Win Mag (If I could only hit anything beyond 100 yards)

FAL is a great weapon, as is a G3. I'd like one of each. But they're main battle rifles, where the AR and AK are assault rifles (well, except for being semi-auto). There are pro's and con's to each, but comparing them is really apples and oranges.


PTR-91 is a sweet rifle. Good choice.

How old are they? Post 2000 imports tend to see more problems than earlier models, mostly due to an increase in rifles imported. Before 2000 it's basically luck of the draw with Romanian AK's, with SAR-1's generally being better quality than WASR-10's.

It doesn't matter much anyhow, as most of the problems are minor and easily corrected. I'm a big fan of Romanian AK's myself. The only AK's that are better (IMO) are Bulgarian and Russian.
