My CCW is a Glock 26. It doesn't suck...for a 9MM. It's small enough to carry easily, it shoots very well for it's size, and I get to listen to everyone's witty remarks about "shooting tupperware", while I'm outshooting them at the range.

edit: I'm not putting up a pic because it's a sub-compact, and you asked for mid to fullsize handguns, I'm just throwing Glock out there as a good choice.

My favorite is the Walther P99. Thats what I have and it works great. Have used a lot of Glock 17's that were severly wore out but still shot great. Don't know if they are full or mid size guns though.

I agree and carry the same gun. BUT, if they want something larger, the Glock 17 would be my choice.

I won't shoot anything but tupperware.

Germans know their 9mmP... H&K or SIG.

Or, if you mostly like the Beretta, the Taurus PT99 is an improved clone with a less stupid safety lever

I really like the Taurus I had.
It was a PT-908, not sure if they still make them.
It was a very good gun, and the fit and finish was a lot better than colts and smiths.

I handled an Springfield Armory XP Saturday and it felt really nice. I would like to shoot it.

Well, all the firearms I posted can be gotten for $500ish used. We have a SIG P225 (bought $275 used) and had a USP (bought used $500).

The USP is ridiculously simple and accurate (as well as ridiculously chunky for the caliber), although the lack of hi-cap magazines is a bite in the tush.

(Standard handgun thread reply...)

Your friend needs to go to a range with a good selection of rental weapons and try several, and if he's never shot much, then should take a lesson from a qualified rangemaster as well, so that he will know what to look for when trying these various weapons.

My choice is, like others, Glock , Sig, or HK. If money is tight, check out the Rugers as well.

I knew this wasn't about you, which is why I said "your friend".

I love the SIGs. Probably the best gun I've ever shot, right out of the box.

The one that I actually own and love even more than the SIG is the Browning High-Power. It's not double action, kinda bulky and has a terrible safety, but when you want it to shoot every time, it's there.

(my carry piece is a cheapie Rossi in .38 special though. Safe and small enough to carry in a pocket. If I ever NEED it, I can throw it away and buy another)

PEace,
PT

I know it's the POS of the crowd, but I have a Ruger P89 that I drag through the mud, get wet and generally thrash and it's held up super well. Shoots nice and fits me perfect. Good price too.

Luckily, I got it way back when... and bought two spare mags. I have three steel 15 round clips. Did I say that out loud?

I like the ruger p89's . I have a P89 DC that I have had for years. Still shoots great and never hangs up.

I also have a 92fs that I love, but it is too big to carry.
Glock 26 is nice, but go ahead and get the 27(40Cal)

My leave in the vehicle weapon is a Baby Eagle 9MM. Shoots awesome, lightweight and midsize.

I'm still voting H&K VP70Z.

18+1, polymer frame, and available in Class 3 select-fire models
