Skool me on DIY Gun Coatings
Looking into doing an O.D. Green matte finish on my Winchester Model 70 .30-06 Matte Stainless/Synthetic. Might do the floor plate, Boss, handle, safety, and ejector in a Black matte finish to offset or just doing a camo job on the whole thing. Can anyone give me any feedback on what the best stuff to use is that's resistant to solvents, what solvents to use after it's coated, the best way to prep it for coating...what brand is the best....etc...etc. Basically anything you can think of or have had expierence with. I've been googling but figured I'd ask for some first hand expierence. Thanks all

I have seen a shotgun that was done with Lauer Duracoat from midway.
It looked very nice and the guy said it held up well. http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpag...eitemid=690892 |

Duracoat.
Sandblast the part. Parkerize. Clean, clean, clean. Mix and apply duracoat per directions. I have not used it myself but have seen a rifle and its magazines that were done and its very nice Pete

Just swap yours with the guy that was here a couple days ago trying to get his camo paint off
I think it was the same gun and he posted pics and it looked ok to me.. I offered to take it off of his hands but no luck .. It's funny one guy wants to get rid of the paint and another wants to paint his, all with in a couple of days

Duracoat is a 2 part epoxy coating that gets baked. So I would disassemble as much as possible. Idea of sand blasting and parkerizing is basically like priming a car with etching primer. Just helps the coat bond better. Pete

Zolatone kicks ass on a 4x4 (my 81 Toy was "jungle-camo"). I'd think it would work well on a rifle stock for sure and metal as well, but I do not know how much heat it can take (if you fire fast).
It's a "spatter" paint as shown in the sample below: ![]() The bonus is that it will also impart a nice "pebley" texture to whatever you coat with it. shit, her's pic of 'ol pile now ->

yea I know but my Dad got me this so it's got sentimental value, that and I'm not a fan of that camo job, not to mention they don't put a BOSS on Winchesters anymore.
