ATTN EOTech owners: cheap ass lever locking system
After getting my EOTech in I decided it would be nice to have a lever type mount for quick removal should it get killed so I can go quickly to iron sights.
I did not want one of the "see-threw" ones as who the fuck needs the EOTech mounted higher? the only one I found was one by GG&G shown here> ![]() It is pimp and nice but at the $90 price tag It was stretching my spending limit. And then I looked at the mount and went "I could build that fucker for less than half that" ![]() well I did... a LOT less Go to your local mountain bike place and ask for the markdown spindle lock thigies for wheels or the seat post locks. I got 2 ultra lightweight aluminum ones for $15 (so I could mess one up) and went to work. First take them apart. Mine were just screwed together with some killer lock-tite so I baked them in the oven at 500* first to break the bond. they cane apart with ease. Here it is after I sand blasted the bligity chrome finish off them. ![]() Next I went and countersunk the center pivot for the socket head screw. It is the one on the right. ![]() Now on the subject of socket head screws: Your EOTech is threaded 6-32.I mocked mine up using a stainless screw at first. It worked great for mock-up but is utterly worthless, spend the cash on real screws. I got mine from bolt depot and i HIGHLY recommend them. They shipped QUICK !! here is a link to the alloy steel ones: http://www.boltdepot.com/product.asp...&cm=25&cd=1218 I had to trim down the 2.5 inch ones for my application. I used the plastic "saddle" thing from mine that goes under the lever. I trimmed it thinner and it was perfect. Next I mocked it all up and marked where the lever hits the EOTech base and notched it ![]() This is to keep it from rotating (more on this later) When you put it all together put the lever in the LOCKED position and tighten the screw THE SAME WAY you would normally tighten the factory one. Snug it up and a 3/4 turn. This way it is as tight as factory and you are not overtorquing the mount. I put lock-tite on it so it will not tighten or loosen. and when done ![]() It does not appear to stick out much further than the GG&G mount. Under the lever you can see the black plastic trimmed down "saddle" ![]() and how the locking notch works here ![]() Now If i notice the little bugger rotates or moves I will make a base for it just like the GG&G mount but I will mill it out of aluminum scrap (note when I say "mill" I really mean "attack with the dremel tool" ) and have it work exactly the same as theirs. I will also need longer hood screws as i will make counter sunk holes just like GG&G.Questions? comments? oh and price $15 for 2 levers so $7.50 we will say $5 for screws counting shipping labor consisted of me sitting on my butt watching the history channel you do the math

From the few pics I have seen of stippled guns the ones done with a few different size/shape punches looked the best. Ones that were done using only 1 center punch didn't look anywhere near as good to me.
Personally I think I'm going to go with the grip tape route till I can fork over the $$$ to have it checkered (and night sights put in, and a mag well, and ambi-safety, and...)

Wow. That is awsome. Wonder if I can do a quick release for my AR scope...hmmmm.
Are you using an MRE box for a work table? Since you have the FAL and camera out, how about snapping a clear detailed shot of where the gas tube meets the gas block ![]() Pete

Good call on the AR and AK sites being loaded with "purists" though. Didn't take long for me to realize that. |

Can you pick up one of those shorter levers? Like I said before, tell me the cost and I'll paypal it to you. Oh, and I dug out my Night Vision, and the non-nightvision version works A-ok. Hell, the lowest setting on my 511 is too fucking hard to see without NVG |

and if you could measure where your hood end to where the battery box ends i could see if the longer one would work.
