Lookie what came home with me today (FAL)
A box of grease-covered shit
![]() ![]() Been debating on getting one of these for a while now, and for those on here that remember the AK build party we had, the next group project has been decided to be FALs. This will be a fun build. We probably won't do as many FALs as we did AKs, instead keep it to a more realistic number of 1 or 2 rifles per person. Parts laid out ![]() And for those of you who have never dealt with cosmoline, or have ever wondered what it is, or have never had the pleasure of baking and scrubbing it off... here's a good example of the shit that it is... ![]() yum

Diesel fuel takes it off easy, and leaves a nice light oil behind

Yes. Details man...we need details. That think looks like they just pulled it out of a barrel and threw it in the box. Have fun cleaning it all off

I saw one of those with a Tapco upper in the pawn shop. It was gone when I went back for it. Damn it.

Kit came from www.interordnance.com. They had a sale on FAL kits for right around $140. That sale has expired and they're now back up to $199. We jumped on several kits while they were still on sale.
I haven't decided on a receiver yet, we've still got several options to pick through. We will probably skip parkerizing these, simply because parkerizing the AKs was a somewhat difficult and not-so-fun process. Finish will be duracoat. I'm not set on a color yet, I might do something a bit more than a basic black rifle.. we'll see.... I still need to go over this kit and make a list of parts that did not survive the de-mil process. And I need to clean the bore to see if this barrel is good or junk. yuuuuu-uuummmm ![]() ![]() Blurry pic. Got most of it off. Now I just gotta swab out the bore and remove the furniture to get the shit out of the small cracks and grooves...

never realised just how many tiny parts there are in a FAL...
![]() and I still haven't taken apart the trigger and stock yet... Hopefully I'll remember how it all goes back together.. ![]() After cleaning the bore, it's looking like I might need a new barrel. The rifling looks a little worn, and there is some slight pitting, and a few scratches, so a new barrel might be on order. These interordnance kits have been hit or miss. One of the kits had a barrel that was absolute shit. Another kit had one that was damn near perfect. Mine is so-so, but I think I'm going to get a few more opinions from people before making the final decision to get a new barrel or not. time to do some reading on falfiles....

what do you want to know?
BTW www.falfiles.com has a lot of info on setting headspacing and shit.you will need: a receiver block or wrench or make one. a set of pin gauges to measure headspacing a good selection of ummmmm what the fuck are the fucking pins in the receiver that set the headspacing called but I am brainfarting at the name ![]() and a way to shave the base of the barrel to clock it correctly. a lathe or they sell some homemade/specialty tool for it

So an update on the FAL project
![]() yes, I realize this thread needs to be moved to the outdoor area. It was started before that section started... I think. So to update the FAL build, this project has been nearly a year in the making now. Most of my builds are done with a group of us in Tx who get together to build guns every so often. The FAL project was spawned off our AK build party which was a huge success a few years ago. Around a year ago, we decided on buying several FAL kits for a future build, and with the price of FAL kits increasing, and becoming almost impossible to find, this turned out to be a wise choice. Anyone famaliar with our AK build party of '06 might remember, we generally build in bulk. For the receivers, we decided to go with Entreprise Arms, which was offering better deals than DSA at the time. I haven't done a price comparison lately, but did notice Enterprise has raised their price above what we paid for these. http://www.entreprise.com/receivers.html The waiting list for these receivers is fairly lengthy. From what I understand, there is somewhat of a backlog at Entreprise right now, and they're cranking these out as fast as they can, but are somewhere around a year backordered. I don't know for a fact though. All I know is it took us around 9-10 months to get these. What made this so hairsplitting was that the one member of our group who has an FFL, has decided not to renew his license. And as it turns out, that license expired just one day after getting these receivers in. Talk about a close call.... ![]() Entreprise was cool about the situation though. They shipped out all the receivers 1-day shipping free of charge, to make sure they got here on time. The only downside is these receivers are not parkerized. We have the option to mail them back for free parking, but we will not be doing that Instead, we'll do the same park + duracoat, or just duracoat the rifles once finished. So the pics. These are Entreprise Type 03 Metric receivers, as available on their website. We originally wanted to go with Type 02s, but cost and availability were the limiting factors. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Will post more as the build progresses, but don't expect anything for a while. edit: .... and I find it very ironic that these are produced in California...

ooo animatorV2
Have you ever seen a DSA, Imbal or CAI receiver? Just wondering how the Entreprises compare. I got in on the 220$ Es back in Feb and they are supposed to be here by early September. DSAs I ordered July 5th are due in a week or two. But I can not wait to compare the two.

I haven't seen a DSA Imbel or CAI receiver up close, so I can't do an accurate comparison. I will say that there is slight amounts of flashing on these receivers, left over from the machining process. Mostly in the tight areas around the locking shoulder and just behind the mag well. But I'm not going to say that this is bad quality on Entreprise's part, simply due to the sacrifices we had to make to get them here on time. edit to add.. when dealing with enterprise, we kept getting a lot of run-around with the delivery dates. Every month we were told "next month". This went on for several months, before a multitude of phone calls and letters exchanged between our FFL and Enterprise got them delivered. I'd deal with them again, as long as I wasn't in a hurry for the part.

I've got some extra parts laying around since the FAL stuff has become so expensive I'll probably not do another. Complete new spring kit, lots-o-mags that need to be reassembled, tac sling, sling mount ... probably more. PM if interested.
