my parents got me a Jeep one for christmas, but it looks pretty chintzy. It does have a remote though so you can change brightness w/o walking up to it. I haven't used it outside to see how much it lights up yet either.

My 3 year old nephew likes my princeton tec eos- he took it and went running around the house shining people in the eyes saying "flashlight head!"He liked the 3W 3D cell maglite even more, but I wouldn't let him use it much- he has a very strong swing, a very poor aim, and his swing is about ball height . back to the topic at hand- go to www.flashlightreviews.com They should have some good comparisons of lanterns. If you're looking at something useable for wrenching, Target has a black and decker 26LED lantern for about $30. I doubt its high quality... but I think it had some decent reviews online.
