Got into goose hunting last year and it is by far the most fun I've ever had hunting.
No scent to worry about, you can make all the noise you want between flocks, you get to set up and change your decoy spread around, and watching a flock way off in the distance turn towards your calling is tops on the list. Deer hunting is ok, but with the number of deer around here it is more like deer killing than deer hunting. Not much sport in it. |

Deer and Elk are the main game we hunt.
This is a large buck for our area (my dad and one of our friends); ![]() Another day of hunting; ![]() Edit: Our family hunts primarily with .270's for both game. Our theory was if everyone shot the same, less chance of running out of ammo

Before kids I averaged about 70 days a year hunting and fishing. Deer, pigs, ducks, quail, phesant, dove, etc.
I gave up waterfowl in the 81-82 season when I was shot and had a couple of other close calls. Number 6's at 20 yards sucks. I quit deer hunting in California with a rifle in 1985 when I finally got tired of being scoped. My brother was shot at the previous year up in Modoc county. I started bowhunting for deer in 1986 and did that until my son was born in 98. I used to do a lot of pig hunting growing up and had a sweet spot in the hills behind Vacaville back in the 90's but havn't gone since. I'd rather hunt pigs than deer and thought about getting back into it this year. Dove are fun as hell. Quail and grouse are grubbin. Pheasant hunting is now a rich mans sport

I'll go back to deer, elk and bear when I move back up north, maybe even some duck and goose again too. Getting lucky and getting pulled for a tag in AZ is more of a pain than it's worth for me at the moment.

I do alot of quail hunting. do some dove hunting but it's not as fun, to much standing in one spot. would rather be moving and watching my dog hunt. sometimes I'm out there sick, cold, wet, only because my dog wants to go. hunted for 10-12 years without a dog and this is my second season with one (first season with this pup) and I would never want to hunt without one. really a joy to watch a dog do something it enjoys so much and comes so natural. a few pics...

I use every legal weapon there is except a crossbow, but I have one at my disposal if I want to use one. My favorite animal to hunt is ducks, but I have yet to go this season. We just need some good, cold weather. |

Whitetail and hogs, mostly with handgun. SuperBlackhawk 44mag with Reddot for short range stuff and Savage Stryker 308 with 2x for longer range.
You almost HAVE to use bay dogs in this region because of the hog's very large range. I will say that im not at all a fan of "dog hunting" but you will not be very successful down here still hunting wild boar.

Bird hunter here. Mostly dove and quail but I did a little upland bird hunting over the last couple of years (chukkar on the AZ strip, pheasant on a friends farm in Iowa.)
I shoot a Rem 1100, Huglu 103F OU and TriStar Field Hunter OU I would say that quail is my favorite hunt because those little birds can be pretty wily out in the desert but the chukkar hunt was the most fun. I haven't hunted any "big" game since I was a kid and now that I'm a "responsible adult" I just don't have the time to get back in to deer, etc. but I wish I could. Nothing like deer steaks on the grill and jerky drying in the oven. |

Deer and turkey here.
I'm teaching myself to hunt so it's a VERY slow process. I would LOVE to hunt elk and I'm really interested in waterfowl and upland game, I guess I just got to find somebody willing to teach me in those as I don't have the dog anymore nor the equipment. Pretty much anything with a season is open game for me, I'd like to try to hunt everything.
