What would be the purpose of the weapon?
self defence, hunting, plinking, etc?

4" Ruger GP100.

Simple, durable, reliable, accurate. Hunt, plink, defend.

If you are not looking for a concealed carry weapon then the Ruger is an excellent choice. Can be found for less the a S&W and I have never ever had an issue with any Ruger quality. I have owned redhawks and blackhawks and fired MK-II, 10/22, #1 and model70. All of them were perfect performers.

After the Ruger look for a nice 4" S&W.

There are probably others but you can't go wrong with a Ruger or Smith.

I own a Taurus 357 snubby, picked it up for 150$ from a pawn shop. Stainless, hammerless. Perfect little CC weapon and I haven't had a single issue with it. Put 1000rds through it in the past year.

Im digging my Rossi 357.... it was 268 bucks and is perfect, shoots good and i can always shoot the 38 special out of it like most 357s. Its a good gun for a cheap price. I got the shorter one but they make one with the longer barrel, I keep this one in my truck all the time.

orginally i wanted a colt, why? cause its a colt.

stopped by an army surplus gun dealer hunting store today just to get an idea on some prices and will be passing ona a colt unless i come acrossed some awesome deal. with that in mind im hoping to keep it under $300. the had quite few s&w and some rugers. most of the ones they had there were used, which i dont think should be a problem.

I'll buy anything for the right price

problem is sellers and buyers right prices are rarely the same

Have you ever shot a Casull? I have a Super Redhawk with a 7 1/2" barrel and a fairly heavy scope and it still hops pretty good. I'm not a puss or a little guy but I don't think it would be fun to shoot a snubnose .454 .

I have had 3 red hawk .44 mags, easy shooters, the .454 snub would not be for a ton of shooting just a fun, look out my big ass snub nose, lol

I think you have to be half tough to shoot that .454. It would make a great up close defense weapon. I have shot 50 rounds through my S&W 44 mag and it was not fun at all. But I am qualified to carry it concealed now

I would get a full size for your first revolver. It will let you concentrate on double action trigger pull. You can go wrong with either the Ruger (GP100 or Security Six) or a Smith & Wesson (my favorite being the 586/686 series). 4" barrel is good for all around home defense and plinking.

I said super redhawk. It's bigger and heavier than a redhawk. And I forgot to mention that it's in .454 casull. I also own a couple of .44's that I can shoot all day long also but the .454 hops a good bit more than a .44mag. As you shorten the barrel, The blast and recoil go up. Even a snubnose .357 is not pleasant to shoot and recoils noticably more than a 4".

Taurus is the best quality for the money.
You can't go wrong with a Ruger, and the prices aren't bad unless it is an odd ball.
There are a lot of good revolvers out there, just figure out what you want in the pistol.

thanks for the input. im looking for alittle clarification on single action and double action.

SA - hammer has to be pulled for every round

DA - mechanic caulking of the hammer from the first part of trigger travel

so for quick multiple shots i would want a DA?
