Budget AR15 build questions

Today was slow so I have been surfing the dealers and forums. I want a AR15 carbine or CAR A2 or whatever it is designated. I wanted to build my own to save money and be able to stretch out the money, but I am not seeing any great savings over a RockRiver complete gun.

I have found the stripped lowers, a used collapsable stock and a basic trigger parts kit, which would add up to about 300.00 with my ffl fee and shipping and new complete upper for around 400.00 with odds and ends it could hit the 750.00 to 800.00 range.

That puts me right in range for this from the factory with warranty.

Cant find a good link but I can get Rock River CAR A2 for buy it now @799.00

im in the same boat... new rifles are pretty cheap - you can even get a kit rifle from RRA for about 600 bucks w/o the ffl-required parts.

doesnt seem worth it to build my own lower-end ar.

I wanted to go with a build too, but really can't do it without 'knowing' people who can get me the parts cheaper. So I might be buying a M4 from this 'new' company out of Scottsdale, Az. http://www.americanspiritarms.net/products.html

I know that the AR-15 is the typical EBR build (or an AK - but they're not always black). What about AR-10s. I'm looking for something with a caliber larger than .223

WHat do you want for it, and do you have any pictures.

Don't have the money right now, but I might be able to save up. I am aching to get an m4

I saved about 150 bucks by building my AR by myself. I bought a stripped lower locally, then bought a complete LPK, and a complete upper. I had a couple options that added to the price of the upper, including chrome lined barrel and chamber, and BUIS rear sight. I think I had about 675 or 700 in everthing, including all shipping and taxes. It is soooo damn easy though, that I would do it even if I didn't save any money.

But the nice thing about buying a complete rifle, is that the resale value is quite a bit better on a complete bushmaster or colt or RRA, than a pieced together kit. I still got 700 out of mine, but that included 10 magazines and about 200 rounds of ammo.

I would have gone 6.8mm SPC if I had built my own. I don't like hunting with anything less that a .270 bullet..but now that's a $500 option since I've already got a .223 rifle

I'm in the middle of gathering parts for my build right now.I'm building my own not so much to save money but to build it exactly how I want it.I doubt I'll save much,if any, money but the rifle will be "mine".So far I've got a DPMS stripped lower, Bushmaster 16" barrel and gas tube.I have a DPMS lower parts kit, Magpul MIAD grip system, and a CAA buttstock on the way.For the upper I'm going with the VLTOR MUR flat top receiver, undertermined low profile gas block, undetermined bolt & carrier,MI 10" free-float 4 rail handguard, A.R.M.S. 40 rear sight and PRI flip-down front sight.
