Fixing Yugo 59/66

Took the SKS apart today to install a new gas-valve from CNC Warrior.

The piston looks to be in great shape, but the interior of the gas-tube seems to be pitted. Anyway, I slipped the piston in the tube and tried to blow air past the piston. I couldn't do it, so I'm assuming there's still a decent seal there...

Cleaned everything, and put it back together. We'll see how the gun cycles once I get my ass to the range.

Thanks for reading this pointless post...

the "gas tube" does nothing but guide the rod. the fit in the "gas cup" on the barrel or the very end of the gas tube is all thats needed. That and air tight is not needed either.

Damn I did not know that. Hopefully then this new gas-valve will take care of the problem. For $12, I just had to try it out.

there is the port in the barrel that comes up and is re-directed by the plug(valve) THAT needs to be a tight/good fit as bypass on that end ends up not being enough to cycle the piston. Once the piston is "hit" and starts moving bypass is not an issue. Look at an AK gas tube for example: its a LOOSE fit and relies of turbulence around the "rings" to cause a seal (works well by the way) but beyond the area where the piston head is at rest is OPEN and allows lots of blow by. This also keeps the gas out of the action.
