There's a gun show this weekend in Memphis so I'll see what all the profiteers are asking.

My UPS guy hates me, 81 pounds of ammo today, and it'll only get worse next month.

From sportsman's guide: 2160 rounds of 5.45x39 7n6 Russian surplus and 300 rounds of Bulgy 7.62x54R Total cost was $308.08 delivered using a free shipping coupon code and being in the club.

MMMMM Spam cans...

7.62x54 was nicely packaged by soldering the can shut

Yeah I resorted to my leatherman to open that crap up, what a pain.

Just be careful, that stuff is steel core and will fawk up steel targets.

You're making my brain hurt! Go to Widener's web site and check their prices.

IMO Wolf ammo is junk to me. I've used the 9mm and had it jam and misfire. Same with .223 in my AR. I will never put it in any gun I own again. I still have 9 of the 10 boxes I bought for the AR in my ICSHTF ammo stockpile.

That being said I shot about 300-400 rounds of it with a friend in his AK with no problems what so ever. It seems that AK's just like dirty nasty ammo. Until reading the post above I'd never heard the they were orginally built for steel ammo but it makes sense.

If your AR won't cycle Wolf, it's either a full on match rifle, or not something I would not rely on in case of zombie attack.

It's low pressure ammo, but well within what is required to cycle an AR15. And while dirty, it is easy to wipe off especially compared to the lake city powder that just cakes on to the bolt.

There is one issue that cannot be avoided, and that is the fact that the lacquer or polymer coating on the wolf cases can glue a casing into the chamber on an AR if you have a really hot barrel and let it cool with a round in the chamber. It is still good for cheap plinking.

Hey Redhorse, I have been under the impression that milsurp ammo is loaded pretty hot to ensure function of the weapon. Do you have any evidence to the contrary?

I don't know too much about milsurp powder loading, but I shot some old 7.62 (it had the copper washed casing...basically the hole round looks like it's Cu plated) and it was dirty, dirty, dirty. I've never shot Federal/Winny stuff as I'm not going to spend the $$$ just to see if it has less power.

It depends on the caliber. Most 7.62 NATO is actually loaded a good bit lighter than commercial, same with 30.06. 5.56/.223 is the reverse.

To walmart you must go. They are about as cheap as it gets for birdshot and plinking pistol ammo.

Yup, I've had my eye out for cheap .38 ammo and Wal-mart is right in there price wise with their Winchester Target loads. With out paying for shipping, it's usually the same or even less.

Dunhams just had wolf for 2.99 a box. They were out of it but I got a raincheck for 2,000 rounds. I may try to bump it to 4k at that price when they get it in stock.
