What Scope?

I just picked up a Stag Arms M4 wannabe.

Mostly targets at the range... 300yds-600yds.

What scope and mounts should I be looking at and where should I be looking to buy them?

Are you looking for a traditional style rifle scope with hunting crosshairs , or a mil-dot reticle? Or are you looking more for a tactical type ACOG ?

If you're just punching paper , I would go for a traditional style scope with a mildot reticle and somewhere in the range of 3.5-10 magnification.

The IOR 3x tactical scope is nice. The Leupold 1-3x CQ/T scope is what will be living on my AR carbine soon. Both outstanding optics, but the Leupy is nice due to the dual role with adjustable magnification.

I'm using a Leapers 3-9x. Since i'm trying to keep the parts budget down I'm not going to spend $300 for a scope on a rifle I'm not going hunting with. That said, I 've got a SWAN riser with flip up rear sight and a second scope riser. I liked the position of my head better with the second riser.

Pics of mine are at the end of "Show your firearms" thread.

Well, the days of me needing a Tactical scope like an ACOG are way over.

Just something for this blind boy to see the paper he's shooting at.

The one I got (this one) I got because it had adjustable magnification and it was cheap. It is also rubber coated and has reg and green illumination for the reticle (has come in handy at the range)

It is a function of how much you want to spend.

Just assuming that you're looking median price, and by the ranges you listed, I too would say go conventional and no less than 10x. Natchez Shooters Supply has a Leupold VX-I 4x12 that ranges from 250.00 to 280.00 depending on the reticle. They have a few Simmons .44mags left also in the 100.00 range. I own a couple of these and they are a good value. I wouldn't discount some of the Tasco's either. I had a Tasco 2-7 on my open class M-14 and every case used to glance off the bottom of the scope. Never did a lick of damage to it. www.natchezss.com is the cheapest place I've found to buy optics. You might browse them and see what they have.

Good bang for the buck right here... Should work for what you're doing just fine. 10x42 , mil-dot reticle , 299.00.
