18 kg = 39.6 lbs.
That is not bad at all compared to what troops are carrying now. I don't see it being standard issue, but I could see the technology being applied to military body armor.

i think its fawking awesome that someone is finally trying to develop full body armor for our troops. if it has to start in the private section, so be it.
i personally would agree to a tax hike to pay for them for our troops... |

You could be Master Chief for Halloween but I dont think it would sell to the general public after the North Hollowood Shootout they started clamping down on body armor sales to the civilan market.I would like to see our troops protected by this suit and would give one heck of a intimidation factor in the field.

I was watching Future Weapons on discovery channel last night and they reviewed this stuff called DragonSkin. Dude unloaded 5.56 and 7.62 nato rounds into repeatedly and nothing broke through. Then they took the dummy out and laid it on a grenade
Blast ripped the carrier but nothing penetrated through to the "skin"

I've heard lots of stuff about that dragon skin...
*apparently* the military has talked to them a lot about supply us forces with it, but they won't release any test information to prove how well it works. Thats the rumor at least...

I know there is a project at the School of Mines here in SD to develop ballastic pants to restist shrapnel from explosions, thorugh Army research. Pretty cool stuff, I think they are mostly looking at carbon fiber and kevlar for the time being.

I saw this guy on Discover channel in how its made or something like that, its a canadian program. Anyways at first i thought this guy was a nut job and then he started showin off some of his stuff. He also developed a very light foam. Put it in a jacket and then shot the jacket at close range. The bullet didnt even go through. The foam wieghs basically nothing.
