Product reviews of my military issued winter shit

that is also available in the civilian market The following gear will be tested and reviewed over the next 2 weeks while I freeze my ass off in northern VA.

Columbia titanium ice dragon II boots
so far I have been breaking them in. they run large in size so definitely try them on before mail ordering. They are stiff soled and you can notice this. there is still enough flex for normal walking and I get very little ankle roll. they have a tie loop on the bottom of the laces and ridges on the back for snowshoes and crampons but are not stiff enough or made for telemark sking.
They are well insulated but also breath well as I was wearing sock liners, wool socks and these today and it was like 60 out and my feet did not feel hot nor are my feet wet.
They work VERY well, as in do not continue to wear them with your wool socks and liners insid as your feet will sweat like a mofo. I recomend all "winter" boots be sized and worn with wool socks and liners, but these will work well with just some regular socks for fall use.

carinthia defence 4 185 sleeping bag
Too fucking small in the shoulders and kinda short. Insulates well but a bitch to sleep in.
will not buy.

the following mountain hard wear gear

ThermaDry Tight
Fucking pimptastic !! wicks very well, nutsack was always dry even in high activities. Snugg ankles can make fitting over large feet a annoyance but worth the trade off. No ass saggage either

Windstopper Tech Jacket
Kicks ass and overkill for 18* weather

Power Stretch Suit
will make you sweat, use for nasty cold

Chugach 3D Pant
Not tested

The following patagonia gear

Capilene® 4 Bottoms
Works well but not as good as the MH ones above.

Capilene® 3 Zip-Neck
wicks very well, little short in the sleaves

The following OR products

Prophet Gloves
a little thick for firearm use but works well all around. Definatly good for general beating

PL Base Gloves
work very well, be carefull of hot items like with all "base layer" gloves. work well enough but wind will cut right through. but thats because the are base layer gloves.
and a fucking beanie that I cant find listed on the site

This post will be edited as i test them

Is your actual issue stuff camo/green/black? Or is this the actual stuff?

My last issued set of stuff was dec 03
black silk top and bottom long johns.
Under Armor tan mock turtle neck, longsleeve tops.
Black fleece pants and jacket, patagonia.
Brown fake fur jacket and coveralls aka Bear Suit
Woodland goretex ECWACS top and bottom.
Goretex boots belleville.
Black goretex gloves, best defence.
Bag was the standard 3 piece with goretex bivi thats been in the system for the past ten years.

Going to Quantico or AP Hill? Neither is really cold this time of year. You should head up to Ethan Allen training center in VT for a couple weeks.

all the gear is either Black, Navy blue with the exception of the boots and they are as shown.
The only "mil issue" shit I will have is the goretex top but that is comparable to any goretex shell on the market....ok the cheapest one on the market I have a few more things to add to the list above as I unpacked all this shit.

No we are going to *OPSEC* a place in the middle of VA that is not listed by you and not owned by the Navy or USMC

Dude, I was getting funnay ass looks at Pendleton in my woodland camies and "civvie" fleese and watchcap even more so when I showed up at the field event with my "infidel" ball cap and hiking boots

Congrats on scoring some excellent stuff. In my opinion it's one of the top benefits for being in a special unit.

You will either be wearing all of that stuff or bare-ass naked while you are up here. We've seen temps go from the 70's into the teens in a matter of days.

That stuff is quality...I'd feel safe in that up here in winter, albeit with a bit heavier coat.

the coat shown is worn only as a warming layer. goretex is worn over that.

You obviously haven't been in VA in the past week. Lows in the teens, highs in the 20's to low 30's. Sustained winds of 10-20mph gusting to 35.

That being said, it was a balmy 48 here today but highs in the 30's again tomorrow with snow tonight.

Guess you haven't been to Alaska lately...-30 and windy at noontime. What you put is t-shirt weather and the end of winter.

Ha, it's been 16 all day in South Dakota and I've been wearing my hoody most of the day. Thats not cold.

Post up how the gloves do, they look like they are built well and I might be looking for a set in the next month. Oh if you want to talk cold, we are heading to Michigan for a Winter mini baja race. Last year it was around -10 to -20 if the wind wasn't blowing and we are racing open cockpit cars.

That's not winter gear. That's spring/fall gear. And Virginia isn't where winter lives either.
