Stockpile ammo
Food thread got me thinking, how much ammo is enough to have on hand just in case?
I have about 2k each of 5.56, .45apc, and 9mm. About 1k 12g and .45LC and maybe 500 45-70. I rotate my stuff. Shoot a bunch, load a bunch more. I also have somewhere on the order of 10k 5.56 once fired brass, and 2-3k of .45apc and 9mm brass. Probably enough powder and bullets to load all of the pistol and 2k of the 5.56, but only enough primers to do 1k of each. I have the dies to do 7.62x39 and 7.62x51 but haven't started to gather brass or ammo for either of those weapons yet. If I get into the Garands and Springfields as planned for a side bussiness I will also get a couple cases of 30-06 Lake City from CMP. And it looks like next month I will want to start buying some 30 Carbine. ![]() I have a couple cap and ball .44s and about 1k worth of lead and caps and maybe 10lbs of BP. My wife thinks stockpiling ammo is a good thing and believes that if needed we can trade it for stuff we need. I think that letting anyone know I have ammo, also means I have guns and may make us a target, but haven't told her that

I'm planning on stockpiling at least 10k of the 7n6 soviet 5.45x39 ammo. I'm low on pretty much everything but have enough powder, brass, primers, and bullets to load up about 2k of .223 at the moment. I need to load .308 since suplus is insane on that stuff right now.

I spent alot of the ammo I had, so now I only have a few hundred rounds of .45ACP, 12 ga, and 5.56. My money is tight right now, as I have to wait for the business to succeed before I will get my quarterly bonus (which makes up at least 50% of my pay).
I'm going to buy plenty of 5.56, and some .308 for whatever .308 rifle I buy.

700 rounds M855
1000 rounds M193 Enough stuff to reload about another 1000 rounds of 5.56 150 rounds .50 BMG and stuff to load 400 more rounds I don't know my shotgun count. Some of it is Rubber ball, beanbag, and buckshot. Most of it is hunting loads.... I am going to stock up again on 9mm. Everytime I get a good stash going I take the SBR out and the ammo goes away! But for now I am gathering as much 50 ammo and stuff as I can. It's hard to find it local. Oh!!! ANd the 308. I have about 2000 rounds of it for the 1919, and about 400 of it is linked already. I have 1000 links for it. |

please fix my runner

in years past I was an ammo whore...I bought ammo and stockpiled as often as possible...I have land in another state where I plan to retire, I have very secure buildings there and have several bolted down secure gunsafes there as well...all of these safes have a few cases of ammomn in teh bottom for security ballast(prevents someone from stealing the whole safe as it is really heavy)...I also stacked ammo crates around the outer walls and then screwed sheets of plywood to the tops to make usable workbenches. Some of these workbenches now have another layer of ammo cases stakced on top of them. I have wooden ammom crates adn lots of surplus metal cans with good seals on them. I have some ammo that was made in the last year and other dating back to WWII and everything in between. I shoot WAAAAYYYY too many calibers and this was my reasoning for stockpiling all the time.
If I had a extra $100 I could blow, I bought ammo... that said...I have a rough tally on what is stockpiled and a fairly accurate assessment of the stacks I grab from when I go shoot. 22(short, Long, Long rifle)---100,000 rds 32 ACP---5,000 rds 380 ACP---75,000 rds 9mm---55,000 rds 45---2500 rds 7.62X25---150,000 rds 7.62X39---220,000 rds 7.62X51---300,000 rds 30-06---55,000 rds 40-82(old Winchester load)---2500 rds 30carb---12,000rds 410ga---4,000rds 20ga---2500rds 12ga---9,000rds there is also a smattering of 40, 257sig, 38spcl, 357mag, 22mag, 303brit, 8mm nambu, and some 10ga that adds up to somewhere near 10,000 total. WHY do I have this? because I used to shoot tons of ammo and was buying and reselling thru a retail store. I would order pallets of milsurp and almost always kept 3-6 crates for myself as it was then free. I shoot a lot of FA stuff and have multiple guns in each caliber, this the need for more ammo... and besides, as much as ammo prices have climbed since most of this stuff was purchased, I could sell out and retire, but I am still having too much fun working...LOL I have a good friend that bought a shipping container of 7.62X39 back in 1984 of chinese steel core...he is still sitting on most of it...LOL...but then he owns several FA Aks...

I have as much ammo as an attacking foe's forces have. I have a limited number of rounds for most of my guns, but I only need enough to afford me an enemies weapon. then I will use his guns and ammo against him. I reason that he will always have ammo, so by proxy, so do I.

I think that the idea is a SHTF type of situation. Imagine worse then Katrina.
IMO we have more then seen that when (not if) something bad happens you are 100% on your own. Now me I am not thinking a Red Dawn type of thing, but somewhere between Katrina and that.

In a situation like Katrina or worse, I will leave when told to. Not hang around waiting for a SHTF situation. In those cases, you only have so much room to carry things other than your family when evacuating. If it happened suddenly, caught me off gaurd, then I might worry. But then again, I only have to make those out to do me harm wonder how many more rounds I have.

Military ammo cans are air/water tight. Great things. Had a hard time opening them after moving from sea level to 6000' ![]() If you buy something and its in a sealed can I wouldn't worry about it. If you are using a can to store other ammo, I would get some of those disacant(sp) packs from Midway or Brownells. I do the same thing for my primers.
