Gun Safes....
What do you have? I know some of you have home-made safes, but want something nice, and fire-rated.
I have a lot of documents that really aren't replacable, and I don't want my guns melting in a fire, nor do I want something that can be carried off in a 15minute house burglery... Suggestions? What do you think about elec. combos? Nice, but battery issues? Key only? Mechanical with key? I don't want to spend 30 minutes trying to get into the thing in an emergancy evac. situation. |

I change out the batteries every six months just like the smoke alarms, when we do the time changes. I might need to rethink that now that DLS is extended ![]() The pistol boxes, 2cu foot fire safe, and my long gun box are all boltable to the floor. This is my document safe http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?actio...781&lpage=none For unreplaceable documents you should really look at a safety deposit box at your local bank and get notorized copies made. I have been looking at one of the long gun safes that is sold at Lowes. Smallest is 400 largest is 800. http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?actio...523&lpage=none http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?actio...251&lpage=none http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?actio...251&lpage=none I need something out in the shop. I need to get something as part of setting up a part time bussiness. Already have the doors alarmed and a motion detector out there. But I need to get something that can be bolted down, fireproof, etc prior to submitting the Form 07

I have a large Heritage safe that holds 44 guns...
It weighs about 1000 pounds unloaded and has a decent fire rating. I found it used for $1200... I have an electronic lock on it and it has worked great so far. Takes me about 5 seconds to get into, and I can do it in the dark if I had to. edit to add: Find the safe you want, and then double it's size and get that one!!! ![]()

thats funny i just checked out the same safe at the depot.
370.00 + tax here in commiefornia. touted as a 14gun safe, it looks like it would hold 6-8 handguns as well as maybe 500 rounds of ammo... hmmmm.... |

If so I think it will do for a start. To get the bussiness up and running I am just going to do 1911 builds and suppressors so no need for tons of storage. But I like the idea of being able to put longer ones in there if needed. If it starts doing well and I need bigger then I can get a bigger one.

/forum/misc-stuff-sale/499111-large-gun-safe.html
that's what I've got... I've grown really attached to it, but like everything else it's still for sale. Price listed in that thread is very negotiable if a good trade is involved

Nice safe, but "shinier" than I want. I'd rather spend the same amount for twice the size
None-the-less, $3k is way outta my budget.I'm thinking $800 to $1200... |

Check out www.cannonsafe.com They in SoCal and have a lifetime warranty. If something brakes they will send a safe cracker to your house, if he can't fix it, they will send a truck to pick it up and take it to the factory for repair.

I have to agree with the sizing deal though... figure out how big you need, and then double it. I've got plenty of room for more guns--as long as they're handguns. I'm out of room for long guns though, and that just sucks. |

That I like to hear! I was just lookat at one on Craigs list. LOL Time to wander back to their site! What's the consensus on Hinges. Some are hidden, so are external... All safes seem to have bolts on that side of the door, so does it matter what hinges it has? |

I bought a Cannon 28 gun safe. 72" x 30" x 18". So far so good. I agree with the others that say UPSIZE. Remember, guns are not the only thing you can keep inthe safe. Until I get more guns, my video cameras, and 35mm camera gear live in the safe too. |
