IDPA Match: Short Video

I shot a sanctioned IDPA match this weekend with my Glock 34. Finished second in the Marksman/Stock Service Pistol class. I actually got beaten by a girl... but that's okay because she was a very good shooter, and she was hot.

Anyway, here's a 2 minute video clip my brother shot of me. When I get the rest of the video edited and hosted, I'll post another link. I got some footage of the expert and master classes who are, obviously, much faster than myself.

Cool.I am guessing the target with the 2 hands drawn on is a no shoot. What is the one that has 1/2 of the cardboard blacked out?

I really like the targets that twisted briefly after metal target dropped.

I have done a lot of competitions in the Army. Combat Pistol, Combat Rifle, and machine Gun.
The rifle stuff evolved to me building a rack grade AR to use in High Power Service Rifle.
I fooled around a little with SASS.

Since retiring I haven't done any competing. 2 little kids doesn't leave me much free time. But I would really like to get into IDPA, 3-Gun, and maybe F-Class. Videos like that really get me ancy(sp) to get back into it.

I love shooting IDPA, ours isn't as cool as yours because its indoors.

I missed qualifying sharpshooter by 1.7seconds with my xd subcompact, 9mm.
We have a few girls that also shoot very well, my wife is one of them.

THe black on the target is counted a miss if you hit it there, like the hostile is behind a wall.

Yup. Two hands equal a no-shoot. Most places, they'll paint a sihouette of a handgun on the rest, as well.

There were other active targets, which I didn't get video of myself shooting, because I didn't have anyone to tape the first few stages.

A drop-turn is the one that faces, then turns back to edge-on really quick.

Clamshells are the coolest, I think. A no-shoot and the bad-guy target are lying flat on the ground. When the cable is pulled, the first target pivots up to vertical, and then the no-shoot comes up in front of it a second later. Watch the video at exactly the 1:00 timestamp. When the steel falls, the clamshell is activated by a cable... it's hard to see because it's partially hidden behind the orange fencing.

1/2 blacked out is a target behind hard cover. Along the lines of a guy leaning out from behind a brick wall or an oak tree: You can't penetrate it with a handgun. A hit in the blacked-out portion of the bullseye is scored as a complete miss. You'll ocasionally see them wearing a "vest" as well. They'll black-out the shape of a bulletproof vest on the target... gotta shoot for the head.

I'm partial to IDPA because of expense: It's the cheapest shooting sport that still allows practical defensive shooting skills to be used: Shooting on the move, from a holster, using cover, etc. Of course, a lot of it is unrealistic gaming as well, but that's somewhat inevitable.

I use a nearly stock G34, shoot factory loads, an even made my kydex mag carriers myself. Aside from the gun and a decent paddle holster ($6 Comp-tac paddle slide here) I don't have a lot in it.

And you don't want to know how much I bought my G34 for. It was a steal.

Exactly. I would be using one of my daily carry 1911's

The only strange thing is same as High Power most every thing is on the other side of the state. There is one place north of Denver, but still a bit over 2 hours one way.

edit: looks like there might be a place down in Pueblo, matches every month. About a 45 minute drive. need to see if they do more then pistol stuff. I do know that all of the NRA High Power comps are in Rifle, near Grand Junction. 4-5 hours one way

Yuck.

Two indoor ranges here in town have an informal "IDPA Night" where they set up this type of stuff every week, just on a much smaller scale. One of them I shoot every Tuesday night, since it's about a mile away from my house.

The match was a 15 minute drive to the big outdoor range northeast of the city.
