*Pics Added* Essential Arms AR-15...worth it?

I am looking at picking up a Pre-Ban AR with the Essential Arms lower. I only had a quick look so far, but it appears to be in good condition, with a collapsible stock, flash suppressor and bayonet lug.

Does anyone know anything about the brand/quality/reliability? How about a price range (I'm at work, so I can't do too much research right now) I can get more info on it if it helps...

TIA!

Are you actually in Denver (city or county, not metro area) proper?

Part of the cluster that is Colorado's CCW law's unholy mating with Colorado's "home rule" laws, includes Denver's own flavor of assault weapons ban having been upheld. I don't know what all is covered under it (IIRC, normal sized magazines are the big thing), and don't get the impression that even Denver PD knows what's legal or not, but it would be good to read up on the law and verify that whatever you're eyeballing, you can legally own. I don't recall reading a grandfather clause, either. If you're outside Denver proper, well, read up on what our elected officials are doing anyway (as I just admitted to not doing), and smile knowing that this stupidity doesn't apply to the rest of us (yet).

Unless the preban status gets you around Denver's AWB, while I've not heard anything bad about EA (and have no personal experience with them), I wouldn't pay extra for "preban" in Colorado (but I'm not in Denver proper); I'd actually pass on it in hopes that somebody in a more repressed state will get on it. I have, however, heard grumbling about cast lowers failing, and a preban EA, would by default be a cast lower, according to their history page: http://www.essentialarms.com/EA%20Co...background.htm Since the lower is the only serialized part, and therefore the only date-trackable part, if you're depending on a "vintage" lower to be legal, you definitely don't want to have that break.

thanks for the reply. I live outside of denver, so I don't have that issue to worry about, at least for now.

This will be a private party transaction, so there won't be a ton of paperwork involved.

I also read a little on the cast lowers, and it seems to be subjective at best (kinda like a taste great, less filling argument).

I'm just looking for something to shoot that doesn't cost a fortune to purchase, is reliable, and will last a while.

Not sure how much "a fortune" is, but for a reasonably inexpensive plinker, DelTon kit + DPMS lower + an hour or so = sub-$600 (including tax and shipping, but maybe not much under six, depending on options) all-brand-new AR.

Also not sure if you're "into" building your own stuff; obviously, the above note only applies if you are into it, but I'd be happy to help out (you're semi-local at least) if you're thinking you'd like to try it, but are apprehensive about actually doing it. AR's are like Legos for big kids.

Who's upper ? I have 3 Essential Arms lower's and they all went together just fine. I've got 3500 rounds thru the last build and I have no issues.

Scott - thanks for the offer, but I picked this one up.

Doc - the only mark on the upper near the rear sight is the letter K. I do not see a symbol

Okay Doc, here are a couple of photos. First is just the overall shot, second is the only mark that I can find anywhere on the upper!
