Glock 23
went down to Sportsman Warehouse and fondled some .40's checked out the HK $800.00+ the Sig 229 $750.00+ and the GLOCK 23 $499.00 , they all felt nice but the Glock 23 felt nice and light , price is a big factor as well , so all you GLOCK haters tell me why I should spend the $250.00+ for a SIG or HK

You shouldn't - unless you're in love with one of the other two. I'm not sure if I've had 5 FTF or FTE combined with all three of my Glocks total in ... well .. 7+ years. The Glock should be a fine gun -

Shoot one and love it. It is a bit short in the grip department, and the recoil from full load .40's digs my finger just under the trigger guard.
That is all I can say on that.

my hand is only 3.5 across the palm , so the short grip didn't seem to bad , I will definitely shoot one before purchasing it , my brother has a G17 9mm so I will try that one out as well as his Sig

I carry a G19, the 9mm flavor of the G23. As 300sniper said, the Glock is a drastic ergonomic change from 1911s. If I pick up a 1911 and quickly point-shoot a 5-yard target with it, I'm about 6 inches low. I've done it.
...But then, I've fed about 8,000 rounds through my Glocks this year. I'm kinda used to them. ![]() I did make a 'slight' modification to the 19. Like ogreshooter said, the trigger guard interferes badly with the ring finger. I carved it up with a sanding drum before I even fired this one. I shot it in a match the next week, and ended up doing the same thing for two guys who tried it out. The rest won't touch it now. Like one of them said, "we know what will happen to our guns if we do." ![]() This made a phenomenal difference. A Compact just doesn't quite feel right in your hand - the finger grooves aren't spaced right, and the top one is too close to the bottom of the trigger guard. An extra 3/16" of room makes all the difference. I almost prefer it to the fullsize grip now. ![]() I polished the hell out of the internals, installed a set of Sevigny competition sights, hacked up the trigger guard, and polished the barrel to a blingy chrome look. That's it. Only had it a couple of months, and it's got about 1,600 through it right now without a single hiccup. My G34 acts up if I don't clean it frequently, but it's chock full of aftermarket parts. So I just clean it after every trip, and it runs 100%. ![]() Here's the before, during, and after pics on the hack-job:

My roomate has a G23 and I've never been able to shoot it as well as the other Glocks I have shot. I've got a G17 and my best friend has a G22 (.40 cal). Both I can shoot really well and enjoy shooting, but hand me that damn 23 and I can't do as well. One gun I didn't see listed was an Smith M&P .40. My roomate also has one of these, and from picking it up I shot great, almost better then with my G17, which I have been shooting for about a year and a half longer. The funny thing is it's not all that much bigger then the G23 and even a little slimmer. The trigger is a little crisper on the break. Overall I just really liked the gun from the moment I shot it. Give it a look, it's not as spendy as the HK or SIG (both great guns BTW) and I prefer it over the G23 and the G22.

What did you finish it off with? I am VERY interested in making this pistol more comfortable to shoot. No where NEAR as good as my SV, but if I could shoot a crook with it and not worry about my finger, that would be awesome. Might even shoot it in production for IPSC. (I do not think that my local guys would even notice that mod.)

There's my post on GT. That should cover it. I finished it off with some really high-grit paper, and then tapped the texture back into it with some 180-grit and a hammer. Almost looks factory. And I agree, I very much doubt anyone would notice it - even at a sanctioned match.

I love all my glocks.. I am one who seems to be able to shoot them fine.. Never had a FTF that I can remember.. this picture is of my glock 26 concealed qualify target for my ccw.. I bought it new from the dealer and said I wanted to qualify it for my ccw.. he said don't you want to shoot it first to get used to it.. I said nope.. fired my 30 and that was the result.. I like them

its all about wahts comfortable. If the Glock 23 feels good in your hands buy it. There isn't another more proven polymer handgun out there than the glocks, some of the tests I've seen them do to their guns is rediculous. My brother ownes a 23 and I put hundreds of rounds through it and never felt comfortable wit it, so when I bought my first gun I went with a smith and wesson MP.40. It felt better and I could group em' tighter. Most ranges will let you rent guns, it's well worth the $5 for a half-hour to rent a gun before you buy it, i rented about 5 in one day and put 100 rounds through each before I made up my mind

I know a guy who had his P239 blow up in his hand, shooting steel-cased 9mm Wolf through it. It was the second round in the mag, and there was a hole in the target from the first one, so it wasn't a squib. His guess is that it was a double-charged round - I can't think of any great reason to argue... But he & I have both run a *ton* of Wolf through our guns without issue, so... *shrug*
