The final say on Wolf
I went to the range the other day and somehow Wolf (steel cased stuff came up) and the the employees at the range started freaking out about how it is the worst stuff ever. I said ok what kind of .223 do y'all sell. Their answer...none. WTF? I figured they were so anti Wolf because the had brass cased bling stuff but they dont even sell .223. They said that they dont have a problem necessarily with steel cased stuff but more so with Wolf because "It will blow out your chamber."
Anyway I ask because I'm supposed to go out to my buddies property this weekend and would like to take out enough ammo for his whole family to plink with. The gun is an CMMG (shooting Wolf voids their warranty) M4gery with chrome lined bbl.

Dirty but that's about it. I feed my AKs with it and will put it through the AR on occasion. Great for plinking.

Blow out your chamber?
![]() Right. Some people bitch about increased wear from the steel case, but how much is an extractor? As everyone else said, it's dirty. The new stuff is polymer coated instead of lacquer coated.

Wolf is great plinking ammo. I personally dont like it because its dirty and not as powerful as stuff like federal 5.56 brews. Its accuracy is decent but I can say 100% without a fawking doubt that it will not "blow out your chamber." The shits underpowered for fawks sake! Plus, reloading might be a little more difficult from what i've heard... but I cant confirm that as I dont reload yet.
On my first AR build I had problems running wolf at first.... carrier was short stroking. Turned out it was mainly poor part selection on my part. overpowered buffer spring and poor gas block alignment. After the gas block was fixed and I put a nice normal powered spring in there... it shoots great! (btw... its a CMMG barrel).

Are they going to stand by you and what someone shoot every round fired? I would be willing to bet 90% of ARs have Wolf shot through them at some point. |

Those guys were just wanting to scavenge your brass and not have to pick the steel cases out of the pile
![]() I have shot the stuff for years in 7.62x39 and 9mm. No problems. The 7.62x39 is not as accurate as Remington or Winchester hunting loads, but it is good for just shooting.

Some people reload the pistol-caliber (usually only once before tossing) and brass-cased stuff, but it's generally NOT a good idea to try and reload steel-cased berdan-primed rifle cartridges. I shoot it in all my rifles, and have 0 problems. I don't shoot it in my .40 handgun any more due to a couple sheared extractors--costing 20 bucks each time to replace, but it's worked great in all of my rifles.

ak loves it, xd40 didnt so much. had intermittent problems with loading the next round. no issues with winchestor white box stuff though. idk its not THAT much cheaper than wwb for plinking.

I like the .308. The .223 is loaded light. .45ACP does just fine out my Astra and my PT145. For 7.62x39, I prefer other Russian steel case, especially Barnaul.
Wolf is dirty, not dangerous. |

My TC Contender's .233 barrel hated steel case, it was just hard to eject.

it's great for plinking. the only raw back are the smell, it will foul a weapon fairly quick and it's underpowered. i have shot alot of it. no blown out chambers or whatever else.

You all would be surprised to see Wolf's sp and hp ammo on impact. I would use it to hunt with out of the AK to 200 yards or so as long as it wasn't large game like elephant.
