One shot, one kill - 357 magnum

Not hardly.

This guy was shot with a 357 magnum, but I don't know what cartridge or bullet (could have been 38 spl. for all I know).
The bullet clipped the bottom of his heart.
When he gets out of the hospital he will be going to jail.
The father-in-law will not be charged.

I know the guy who got shot, and it really doesn't surprise me.

SISSONVILLE -- A Sissonville man was in stable condition today after being shot by his father-in-law, police said.

Kanawha County deputies were called to a home on Eric Drive in Sissonville about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday after reports of a domestic dispute.

Donnell Oxley 36, was found shot in the chest, Lt. Bryan Stover said.

Oxley was transported to Charleston Area Medical Center General Hospital where he remains under evaluation. Police said his wounds were not life-threatening.

Oxley's family members told police the man had been high on meth and was causing a disturbance and damaging property around his home and the home of his father-in-law, John Taylor, who lives next door, Stover said. Family members also said he had been harassing and threatening them, Stover said.

"At some point, the altercation escalated and (Taylor) shot Mr. Oxley once in the chest," Stover said in a news release.

Police are still investigating, but no charges have been filed, Stover said.

Witnesses reported that at one point in the day Oxley had been riding a horse around the family's home, damaging property, Stover said.

Oxley appeared last year on the "Dr. Phil" talk show during a segment on meth addiction.

Family members said today he also had been taking part in a substance abuse rehabilitation program.

Wanda Taylor, John Taylor's wife, would not comment this morning when reached at her home.

Sissonville man allegedly shot by father-in-law
Kanawha County sheriff's deputies arrested a man in a shooting Tuesday in Sissonville, a sheriff's dispatcher said.

SISSONVILLE, W.Va. -- A Kanawha County man is in the hospital after being shot in the chest -- allegedly by his father-in-law -- Tuesday night in Sissonville, police said.

Donnell Oxley, 36, is in fair condition today at CAMC General Hospital.

Kanawha Sheriff's Lt. Bryan Stover said Oxley had been causing a disturbance all day on Tuesday. Family members told police Oxley was high on methamphetamines, damaging property and harassing his in-laws, who live next door on Eric Drive in Sissonville, Stover said.

Oxley's father-in-law, 64-year-old John Taylor shot him once in the chest around 10:30 p.m. during the altercation, Stover said. When deputies got to the scene, Oxley was walking around and still causing a disturbance, Stover said.

No charges have been filed and the incident is still under investigation.

Anything worth shooting once, is worth shooting again.
Bottom line is don't think you are omnipotent because you have a handgun.
Realize that even after you empty, you might have to fight the person until they bleed out. I suspect their mindset will be "I'm going to kill you before I die".

Truth! People hopped up on meth, PCP, etc can perform some seemingly inhuman feats, like pick a full grown cop up and throw him through a plate glass window causing him to retire from back issues, walk around with gunshot woulds to the heart etc.

I doubt it. The area where he is from people shoot people and call the cops, not make them disappear.

The guy who was shot is a known fighter and knows his stuff when it comes to coon dogs. He has always kept good hounds, and is a good judge of hounds. He just a hillbilly hopped up on meth.
Maybe this will be a turning point for him, apparently the Dr. Phil show and rehab didn't work.

I have seen a video a couple of different times of a South Carolina Highway Trooper who pulled a guy over. It ended up with the guy going for his pocket and the trooper shooting him 5 times in the torso and chest at close range with a .357 magnum. The subject got off one shot with a small .22LR. The subject was alive and talking when back up got there, the trooper was not. The .22LR went in under the arm missing the vest and killed him.

I've seen it twice in training and it's still very hard to watch, and sometimes makes me question what is enough for personal defense.

i've got a 357 mag and it seems like a cannon, i couldnt imagine shooting someone with it, especially at close range

I guess the only bright spot to your story may be that even though he didn't die, i'd be almost certain he's deaf now, those 357 mags are rediculously loud

I have personally helped someone dislocate both shoulders and still have them fight. The only things is brain stem rerouting or pure weight/straight jacket type stuff.

I don't know a ton about ballastic but with the larger handgun caliers maybe they don't expand quick enough?? It happens with rifle bullets.

leading to which I don't think it would the caliber but the size of the wound it makes, ie what gets the most stuff to bleed causing lose of life.
