So I got that WASR (previous post). Now how do I remove all of the furniture without destroying it? I want to refinish this cheap wood that came on it.
Not sure if a WASR is the same as other AK's and I am going off memory, so here goes:
1. Remove dust cover.
2. Remove spring/piston/bolt/etc.
3. You will see a screw near the butstock under the dustcover.
4. Wiggle upper handguard free in an upward direction.
5. Under where the upper handguard just was there is a "flippy thing". Flip "flippy-thing" up.
6. Remove lower hanguard assembly.
search on here (someone did a really nice write up), but i did mine using rit dye (used 2 parts red to 1 part orange if i recall correctly), and it came out really nice.
Well the ebony turned out like shit. All black, no wood grain so I srtipped and sanded it again. Gonna try red mohagany this time around. Wish me luck!
Red mahogany looks good. I used it on my M70, M72, and a romy G.
Up close of the Yugo M72 stock.
I may try to go with something a bit lighter on my next wood stock sets... but overall, I'm happy with how these turned out.
