Looking for guidance AK-47 kit

http://www.golsn.com/listings/outdoo...ms/583382.html

I'm looking for you guys that know about these kits for some guidance. I've contacted the seller but what I'd like to know is, is this a decent kit and do you see anything missing from a complete build?

Thanks.

Considering today's kit prices, that is a good deal, considering all the stuff it comes with.

Kit looks to be in good condition externally, but there's no way to tell the condition of the bore, although every 80s romy kit I've seen has had a perfect bore.

While it is true that everything needed to build an AK is in that pic, you'd still need compliance parts for it, so keep that in mind.

Thank you. I've made him an offer so we'll see if he bites. If so, I hope some of you won't mind letting a green horn ask some stupid questions... I'm fairly handy mechanically but again, some guidance may be required.

Thanks

Do yourself a favor, and buy an AKBuilder flat when you're ordering compliance parts.

The Tapco flat with pre-bent rails (what he's got) are only good for coasters. I wasted my money on 3 of them.

really??

I've never used any of the pre-bent top rail receivers, but I've done MANY on standard Tapco flats with no problems at all.

And I've done a few on AK-builder flats as well, with no problems.

Bleh, I have seen better deals than that recently. Its not a hose job in todays market, but its not a smoking deal either.

I will only use AKbuilder flats from now on. I have used Nodak flats, AK builder flats, generic flats, Tapco prebents, and the old Tapcos. BY FAR I have had the best results from the AK builder flats. I also dont like the tapco rivets. They have the incorrect quantites of swell neck and straight rivets, and their rear trunnion rivets are often too short.

Thank you for the direction. I'll be given http://www.jgsales.com/product_info....oducts_id/1410 a close look. I figured with the way things are going I better get in before everything is cut off. I've got a paratrooper version SKS that I converted over to AK mag's and went ahead and got 10 30rounders.

Again, thank you.

Yes, really.

The receivers all came out about 1/8" too tall. The rails are too high up. And the bent recievers matched the original stubs for width, so it's not like the jig was making them too narrow and tall... the Rails are just plain too high.

But an extra-tall reciever could be built around, at least on an AK. What kills them is that the rails are pre-trimmed. Way too much. With a round chambered and the bolt fully in battery, you can wiggle the charging handle about 4 times as much as a WASRs. Too much slop in the rail-to-bolt fit. And that's in battery. It gets really ugly when the bolt's at the rear - Ocasionally the bolt carrier will pop up halfway into the takedown-cutouts that are far too large, jamming the rifle until it's cycled by hand.

Regular, bend-and-trim-your-own-rail type Tapco flats are great. Just don't get a pre-bent one.

I *think* that's one of my $99 Romy kits from last January I sold to a guy in Murfreesboro.

can you take a pre bent rails flatten then out, then bend them in a jig, then bend the top rails back over?

Either sell them, or practice with them. Think long term on this, and just spend the $14 on an AK builder flat.

What he said.

Use them as expendable practice receivers before you press your standard Tapco flats, or akbuilder flats. Either work just fine.

I have bought 5 or 6 kits from them so far, and have yet to get one I wasn't happy with. So far 2 of them have been new kits with wax paper still in the barrel, around the sight, etc. I jsut wish I had ordered a bunch when they were $89 2 years ago.
