So I tried out an EMP and a P250...

And several other 9mms. Unfortunatley I couldn't test them 'head to head' as they are at two different ranges.

So far the EMP fits my hand the best. Absolutely perfect actually, but it is very 'poppy'. I'm guessing thats because it's so small, not alot of material for the recoil to distribute through? I guess I have to figure out if thats something I could get used to, since I'm not that experienced of a shooter.

Trevor said that the best grouping I've had so far was from the S&W M&P compact, but I didn't like that gun at all.

I tried a P229, P226, M&P fullsize and compact, EMP, P250, etc. I also tried a friends Glock in 40cal. I think there were a couple others in there also.

The price tag hurts on the EMP, I'm not gonna lie.

I think what we will end up doing is I will take out the Beretta 9mm we have on loan from my brother in law. Just take it out a couple times a week to get used to shooting, then I'll hopefully be a better judge of what I'll be able to get used to.

Comments? Suggestions? Donations? You guys have been great helping me with my questions in the past.

Poppy is ok, if it feels good, and you shoot it well, then thats what you are looking for. With practice you can improve accuracy and get a better handle on the recoil.

Have you tried a Beretta Px4 Storm? Seen one of these the other day, read a few positive reviews on it. Might be worth looking into.

What didn't you like about the M&P compact? Did you try the different grips? They really do change how it feels in your hand, and it would be a shame to pass up on the one you shot the best so far.

Probably a good call spending some more time behind a trigger and then going to re-evaluate.

What do you people say about this? (I know it shows out of stock, I'm talking about the gun, not the deal...)

http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/p...ducts_id/27838

It's the pre-EMP Springfield compact 9mm. The PX9505L.

Did you use a "high thumb" grip on the EMP? If not go back and try it.
http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...32856867071363 (at about 1:00)

You tried the small grip M&P?
Have you thought about a revolver like a lady smith?
What about something like a Walther PPK?

I'm not interested in a revolver.

The M&P Compact was actually TOO SMALL for my hand. My pinky sticks out off the bottom at a weird angle and it made it uncomfortable.

The EMP was a range gun, it was stock.

Were you using the mag with the pinkey extension or the flat bottom mag on the M&P?

A "high thumb" grip is something you do, not something on the gun. You keep your thumb on top of the safety which keeps your hand closer to the bore of the gun, reducing muzzle flip.

I used the pinky extension mag. The gun it's self felt way too 'top heavy' for the way I had to hold it. I was not comfortable with that gun. It's out. (Oddly enough, my husband had a 4'' grouping with it and he has bear paws.)

I am most likely going to go try it again (the EMP) so I will try that grip also.

Any night but Wednesdays, I have physical therapy.

I can shoot the Beretta and the P250 head to head. The EMP is at Wades (which btw, I didn't think was 'all that', I actually like Sam's better. It was freaking $70 for Trev and I yesterday!!)

Call me Kev!

Why don't you try a full size or commander sized 1911? You said the compact was good and just too snappy. Why not try a heavier version of the same gun?

I highly doubt the smaller one is going to be easier to conceal anyway. It might be more comfortable to conceal, though.

If you like the EMP and want to save $, go with the pre-EMP 9mm. They may be tough to find. Buds=0

The EMP also comes in .40S&W, are you sure you didn't shoot that at he range? .40 is a "poppy" little round to shoot in anything. Not a lot of fun IMO.

It was a 9mm I shot. 40 is too much for me.

Are you talking about the Springfield I posted above? They do look hard to find, but promising.

Yes, That is what I was referring to. I searched gunbroker quickly and did not see any there either. The price on that pistol was a lot easier to live with than an EMP

As someone else mentioned, consider a fullsize in 9mm. A few company's produce a 9mm with 4" barrels. Just don't mention a Kimber on Pirate.

Even a fullsize in .45 will be fine. If my 5'5", 140 lb ass can rawk a fullsize kimber to 24 shots and 3 reloads in 20 seconds, anyone can learn to shoot a 1911 properly

Are you looking for a carry gun? Is this going to be a range gun/carry gun...
I love my xd sub, in 9mm. Kahr pm9 is a great carry gun, easy to conceal but not the most fun to shoot alot.

My fullsize 1911 has less recoil than my sigma .40 and less than my wifes m&p in 9mm.

I will carry about 2 hours out of the day (the evening when everyone but me goes home) and on Saturdays (I work alone then). Other then that it will be a range gun. I'm not so much worried about the weight while carrying, it's not going to be on me long enough to be a bother. I'm worried about the weight while shooting though. I won't want to shoot it if it's too heavy. Make sense? I like the compact 1911's, the fullsizes are just too damn big for me.

Look for a 4" barreld 1911. I personally think this would be the ultimate carry gun while still not beating you up if you want to shoot it.
The 1911 is nice and thin, making it easier to conceal. I am 5'6 and its easier for me to conceal my 1911 than my xd, more comfortable to because its soo thin. On the down side, its hard to sit down.

Definatly try the commander size if you can find one in 9mm. It should be part way between the compact and full size, length and weight are whats going to knock down the recoil and make it easier for you to shoot.

You mentioned the P250, did you get to try diffent sizes of that one as well? I did some looking and they have 3 grip sizes, 2 trigger sizes, and then you get into fullsize, compact, and subcompact, looks to be a lot of adjustability there to get it sized just for you.

The newer XD/M has changable grips, maybe a small version would work.

Full size M&P, only a 4.25 barrel so not that long, and it will have more grip for you.

Sounds like you've tried a good cross selection of pistols, but now a days there are a bunch with different options for sizing of the grips, don't discount how much difference they can make.

Of course you can't go wrong with a 1911 styled pistol, they do tend to be a bit pricier though. Did you try a Para Ordinance by chance? I got to play with one at the gunshop the other day, subcompact with their LDA trigger, I was really impressed witih how smooth the trigger action was, everything else about it was 1911 style. Might be worth a shot.

I like my little PPK. Although mine is just a little baby .32acp version. For as small as it is, it's extremely accurate.
