case hardning

So I see Brownells still sells case hardening chems etc.

I always wanted my para 1911 slide to have the case hardened look, but it appears to have duracoat or similar other finish on it. If I sand blast off the slides original finish will the previous finish effect the case hardening finish? This is hypothetical since I do not currently have access to a sand/bead blaster.

I dont see why it would

I have thought of case hardening an entire ak receiver, and doing some type of clear finish over it.
