Gun Finnishes, Guncote, Duracote, parkerized?
![]() Finish... not finnish....![]() ![]() I have a new AR varminter upper with a stainless barrel.. I want to black out the barrel.. I know Doc does the Duracote and just pmed him.. But what do you guys think the best option is for doing a stainless barrel.. I want it to be perfect in finish.. How about the crown? If I get someone to do it I may want to do some cool stuff to the receiver too.. What have you guys done? what holds up best?

Only one I have used so far is duracoat. I like it. I have been trying to experiment with changing the finished product by adjusting the hardener levels, but I dont have very much in results yet. I got a stock to come out pretty shiny and I didn't like it.

for you gunkote or another spray can finish from brownells baked in the oven at the directions.
Unless you want to try your hand at airbrushing. As for plugging the bore I use a foamy ear plug cut in half width wise. roll it like you would stick it in your ear and one goes in the chamber and one in the muzzle. remember to remove when done

We do DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) coatings where I work. They produce a deep black super-tough finish, with a hardness of between 20-30 Gpa. The DLC is typically applied in thicknesses of 3-5 microns. Google DLC coatings. Pretty cool stuff, and we do guns on occasion.

I have some small parts you can slip in whenever that could use a ultra-hard coating

I've used gunkote a lot and really like it. Tried it with an airbrush and I suck, so I stick with the spray cans (as I think doc was saying?).
If the price is decent with that dlc coating then I would certainly be interested as well...

DLC coating isn't cheap. The cost is $200-$400 per lot. the lot being all the parts that can be coated at once in our process chamber. Chamber size is 12" x 12" x 30" H. If you guys are serious, PM me, and we'll get something going.
