have i been living under a rock, plastic .223 rounds?

have i been living under a rock? i have never seen or heard of these before. a friend showed up with some today. he got them from another friend but had no idea where they actually came from. they are plastic cased .223 rounds. they have a similar hull to a shotgun shell with a brass head.

so am i that far out of the loop or are these something strange?

Whats the point to these? How is it any better (in theory) than brass or steel cased?

i'm thinking besides being lighter, plastic is probably cheaper to manufacture than brass too.

Those things are great. And they are exceptionally light. A loaded 20rnd thermold mag weighed about the same as an empty steek AK mag with that ammo. I shot a lot of that stuff several years ago. I haven't seen any in a long time, and don't remember who made it.

It's good stuff to shoot. You can't use it in rifles with fluted chambers though.

Says it wont work in a fluted chamber.

I've shot plastic bullets with my Mosin before. They were steel cased with plastic projectiles that were mainly used for training. They were nice to shoot, as there was not much recoil compared to a heavy-ball 7.62x54r shot. I wish I knew where to find more.
