so i have a potential credit of 500 bucks with a company that makes silencers

help me decide what to get

so i was thinking a silencer for one of these :

a .223 for one of my AR 15's.
a .308 for a i-dont-have-one-yet bolt gun (will need to thread the barrel)
a 9mm for one of my stens i havent built yet (will need a threaded barrel)
a 9mm for my sig P6 (will need a threaded barrel)
a 45ACP for my XD45 (will need a threaded barrel)
the 9mm AR15 upper with silencer they sell. (would need to convert one of my AR's to 9mm, or buy another lower)

Id get one for the AR. I shot a pistol w/ silencer once and as cool as it was, I thought that it was heavier, you could never carry it, and if you ever had to use something with a silencer it would be something I really didn't want to do again so why not use a larger caliber.

I vote for 9mm. You can put it on a 9mm pistol you already have, a 9mm AR you need, some 9mm stuff you haven't built yet, and while it won't be great, it'd quiet down a .308 a little too.

I would build the sten with an integral silencer. You have machine shop access right? Form 1 and little lathe work...

If you're going to buy one. Get a .308 and use it on your AR (.223) and .308 bolt gun.

Looks like three 9mm applications on your list.
I'd go with a 9mm silencer an swap it around.
The .223 and .308 are not going to be as successful at silencing because of the sonic crack of the high speed bullet . However the 9mm will be a lot more quiet since it can use a 147gn bullet to keep it subsonic even in your 16"+ AR barrel

I've not heard the best things about their suppressors, but get a 5.56 version. You use the ar for your pig gun now so why not, and it's got a removable endcap so if you want spooky quiet you can throw it on a .22 and clean it out afterwards.
9mm AR's are definitely the most fun you can have with an AR platform, but look at what it would cost to have someone make you a threaded p6 threaded barrel and you'll probably change your mind. (or buy an hk 9sd

)

im not worried about being quiet shooting pigs w/ my gun.

im leaning towards thats MIMS thing, so i can swap end caps to different barrels.

reviving this thread..looking at the MIMS; I already have custom spike's tactical pistol and i wanna convert it to a rifle...the current pistol has a 4 inch barrel, and if i put the MIMS on it will make it 16inch...Soooo, I think I will only need one tax stamp...Is that correct Pete? really??? is there anyway that I can chopped my barrel down and compensate with the suppressor length as long as the suppressor fitting is on there permanently? I just don't want my shooting iron to be to front heavy...

I would highly suggest not putting a MIMS on a .223 rifle.

The MIMS is meant for pistol rounds and SMG duty, not rifle.

Now if you're thinking of the YHM .308 cans, you can put those on to a YHM .223 flash hider and run it. That is one of the duties mine will have as soon as Nancy Flanigan gets around to approving my form 4.

this is retardedly quiet with subsonic ammo! just the bolt slapping is all you hear....

now what typa optic? i tried sticking my eotech on it, but the rail that it has wont let me stick that on there (the bar on the bottom of the eotech that drops into one of the "slots" on the rail is too wide).....

so what do ya say, PBB? a little red dot? change the rail out to 'tinny rail so i can stick the eotech on there?

this thing needs a trigger bad

im looking @ a 2 stage or something nice. prolly a little bipod too.
