Good deal on a SOG multi-tool w/marlin spike.
Forty bucks shipped CONUS. Great for opening rigging shackles or loosening knots in rope.

I want to find one of the ones that you "sling" to open, not the fold out kind.

Send it back, I did the same, they replaced it and even loaded it with tools that it didn't have when I sent it in....I just wish mine had those flaps that cover the tools when using the pliers, would make it more comfortable to use

Yeah, I guess I should. I have had them replace it once before, they just sent me a new jaw and the wrench to fix it with. Mine is one of the older ones, and it is the smallest one they made. Probably trying to work on something too big when I broke it, I don't even remember now.
I don't think the SOG tools are cheap though, I like them better than the Leatherman or Gerbers, The only time I have ever owned a Gerber tool was when we were issued them for deployments, even then I took the SOG and threw the Gerber in the bottom of a duffle to bring home. I have not tried the newer Leatherman though, they look like they have improved.

I never use it and never carry it, I prefer just a standard blade. Wanna buy mine? Here I found it, this is what I have. http://www.amazon.com/Gerber-22-0847.../dp/B0001P2K5C

I had an original non-locking Leatherman, which I finally destroyed the small screwdriver (perfect for tightening up Switchcraft XLR connectors), and then the pliars by cutting through a live 120v 18ga cable. I sent it back to them for repair in the original worn leather holster, and they sent me a brand new one...in my old holster. No charge. It now lives in the glovebox of my tow rig.
I also have a Buck that I keep in my wheeling rig, but it's going to be replaced by the SOG. I don't have a hook on my winch cable, just a thimble, so I need the marlin spike to loosen the shackle when I want to use it. The buck will stay around for doing shows. Forty bucks is a swinging deal, IMO.

Today was the day of delivery. I got the SOG, a new phone and a replacement pre-amp for the Toyota. All via Fed Ex, all different drivers
.The SOG is a nice piece, the compund leverage of the pliars is nice, and it has a razor blade type seatbelt cutter. The Marlin Spike isn't really a classic Marlin Spike in that it doesn't taper down to a fine point, so it won't be that good for loosening knots, but for opening shackles it's great. A nice beafy piece, and it should last a long time in my 4x4 trail bag.
