Carbon Fiber or Aluminum Handguard?
On a hunting AR which would you choose? "Hunting" may include being thrown around in a boat or the back of a truck.

carbon fiber...
in case it is lost in a boating accident...it will look better when you DO find it.

I voted CF. Lighter and strong enough. Unless you are going to drive over it, I think it would do fine.

I voted CF. Was the very first vote in the poll. Then went back to something else I was working on before coming back to post my comment.

Carbon Fiber.
Nicer on the hands, and there is no need for an all aluminum handguard, unless you are using it as a mounting point for a bunch of shit attachments that you typically wouldn't have on a hunting rifle anyway. The lack of non-aluminum aftermarket forends for the AR has bothered me for a long time. I guess it's just not tactical though.

The only thing that I'm concerned with on the carbon forend is the toughness of it. I won't be using it ass a hammer, but I would hate to crack it.

I have a DPMS one on a nordic kit I built last year, it is really rugged. I dropped before install on my concrete floor and it just bounced. In order to crack it you would have to be doing something rather abusive.

I had an armalite CF forend. I regret selling it. It was tough. Anything that cracked it would have damaged an aluminum one as well.

Well, the poll is currently in a dead heat. I'm gonna go with the carbon fiber because I would like it to be as light as possible and the barrel is already gonna be heavy. Thanks for the input.

Same here... even though I've never fondled one.
