07 interview.....Wow

No wonder nobody knows WTF is going on.
I'm an 01 so he asked to see my books. No worries, here you go. I transfer lots of multiple receivers so he asks if I filed my form for multiple pistol sales. Um, no, they are not pistols.
He gets an attitude with me and tells me that they "can" be built into pistols. Holy crap. He's going to call me Monday with a clarification. OK

Today he calls me to tell me that he was mistaken. I'm thinking, great !
That is until he tells me that "Adding a pistol grip to a Saiga makes it an NFA item" As in, requires a tax stamp.

Good God, were in trouble. He's been doing this job for 10yrs. lol

And sadly, there are no penalties when they make a mistake. No one is held accountable.

But god forbid you should fill out a form and miss one field, or use an abbreviation instead of writing something out in full.

If it weren't for this forum, I would still entertain the notion that it might be cool to hold an FFL someday.

Hell no! I will pay a transfer fee all day long to avoid that headache. I don't want to deal with those guys at all on that level, its one of the main reasons I won't build an SBR or get a suppressor. They get enough of my info with the NICS check.

It is cool and I do enjoy it. Soon I will be enjoying it in my own peace and quiet as soon as my SOT comes back.

Its definitely a trade off between having cool toys and having to deal with the BATFE. Having to be at the mercy of an organization that has no consequences for its actions scares the hell out of me also.

My experience with the local ATF branch was painless.

The city and state are more of a problem with licensing and tax.

No.
I offered to email him direct links for info after I explained 922r for the second time. He declined. He had trouble with the concept of an imported weapon. He kept telling me about domestic shotguns and how adding a pistol grip to one was an NFA item so it was the same for the Saiga.
I just told him he was as mistaken as he'd been about the multiple sales issue and we left it at that.
He wasn't an ass or anything. I was just speachless.

My guy from the ATF told me I couldn't manufacture ammo with an 07 and he was only going to approve me for an 06. I asked him to check on that and get back to me and lo and behold.

I've met the guy who checks the shop. By the book, no bullshit type. The best part is, if he is unsure, he will tell you straight up that he will confirm and call in with the answer. There were some mistakes in the log concerning consignments. When it was pointed out that this is not a pawn shop but that the guns were consignment pieces he changed his tune.

Even with the mistakes, once he read the report as to how it went down he called back and told us he was going to bat for us and everything was cool. 2 days later the letter arrives showing the official address change and all is well.

I guess its all in who you get.

Yeah, but it's usually a compliance inspection.

How long is it taking you guys to hear back once you submit the paperwork? My check was cashed 03/29. I am expecting a call any day now to schedule the interview. I have a handful of folks who want to buy things, and I am hoping they don't get impatient.
