7.62X39 vs. 7.62X54

54-39=15. 15 what? and Where is this 15 affecting the bullet? And how common is the ammo? Gun purchase riding on answers and discussion.

125gr bullet moving at 2500 fps versus a 155 to 190gr bullet moving at 2500 to 3000 fps.

Pfft, don't listen to these guys. You're right, it's only a non-magical 15 that separates the two. I wouldn't let that stop me. I'm sure if you look around you can find one that will shoot both just fine.

5.45x39:

Polish, Bulgarian, and Russian AK-74
Saiga
AR-15 uppers are also available.

7.62x54R:

Mosin Nagant and all variants
DP-28
PKM
SVD
PSL
M-76
A new-production AK-47 clone chambered for 7.62x54r is now on the market
And a few modern bolt-action hunting rifles are available as well.



To name a few. There could be more, but that's just off the top of my head...

AK-74 and mosin-nagant, respectively. Also, Dragunovs and SVT-40's were chambered in 7.62x54R.
