Red X Arms ????

Im looking for a good deal on an upper for a Plum Crazy lower I bought on impulse a while back.

Are these guys any good ( Red X )? I found the link here but know nothing about these guys...

I want the free-float gaurd and a heavy barrel. Either a 16 or 20" ( havent decided yet...)
I would also like the fold up iron sights and have the flat-top for a possible optic down the road...

Does this come with everything needed ? Can I just drop this on my upper throw in a mag and start shooting ??

Sorry but Im an AR noob... I havent even ever fired one...lol

http://shop.redxarms.com/AR15-COMPLE...EMBLIES_c3.htm

Maybe one of the vendors here with a good reputation could let me know what they have as well.....

I have also been considering a 5.45 upper for the cheap ammo.. Can I get everything else I want at a good ( cheap...lol) price ?
I really like the look of the heavy barreled upper from red-x but havent pulled the trigger yet as they dont show a 5.45...

A buddy bought one of their 20" uppers, bolts and charging handles shortly after I posted this thread.

http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showt...677&highlight=

The barrel seems real nice, the upper receiver had a keyhole forge mark and I couldn't tell the difference between it and any of the Rock Rivers or CMMG's in my safe and the free float tube was as nice as any cheap aluminum one I've seen.

The only real issue with it is that it came from them with an aluminum clamp on gas block installed just slightly off so it initially had some issues cycling. Lined it up and it's cycling fine now. I think he's going to end up replacing it with a little better one.

I'll be ordering one for myself soon, I don't think you can come close to it anywhere else for the price.

I would avoid a heavy barrel, it's just not needed in the AR platform unless you are shooting Hipower matches and a heavy gun helps (Those are the guys who add lead weights to the stock and end up with a 12-13 lb unloaded rifle).

With the plastic stock, a heavy barrel will bias weight too far forward for easy handling. I'd actually like to upgrade mine to a pencil barrel for even less weight. Lighter is better.

x2

I have a 24" heavy barrel--it's awesome for long-distance shooting off a bipod (I wanted a 200yd gopher killer)...but sucks ass for offhand shooting.

You fawker, NYCEGUY101, now you've got me considering their 16" tacticool SS barrel and build my own lower.

Anyone know why some of these guys like Red-X (and Bravo Company) commonly sell their "complete" uppers minus the BCG and CH? Do a lot of people want to just customize their uppers with their own BCG and CH, but like the off-the-shelf barrel and handguard combos?

I dont have any experience with that brand but i have a 16 in stainless bull barrel with the floating guard like u are looking at and i like it.The 16 in is fairly well balanced unlike the 20 or 24 which is front heavy.

I've already got light ARs and for some dumb reason I've always wanted a big heavy barreled one(and I'm thinking about shooting some hipower matches). I won't be doing any mall ninja drills with it so the heavy barrel isn't going to be an issue. I do get what you are saying though.

Handled what looked like a standard 20" A2 from 5 feet away at a match I went to a while back. The owner handed it to me and I about dropped it, not expecting it to way as much as it did. He said unloaded it weighed in at about 13.5.

Buddy of mine just ordered one--seems like a good value with the SS barrel and ff handguard. Should be in early next week, we'll post pics and a review.

Got one of these as well. YHM flat top upper. JSE doesn't have anymore as far as I can tell. They are selling complete DPMS low pro uppers now but don't have the drop down upgrade menus

Need to post pics.
It has a somewhat tight chamber, and didn't like some of my not-quite-full-length sized reloads. Shoots factory ammo great.

Still trying to find its favorite load.
