CCW finally going to pass in Illinois???

http://www.stltoday.com/news/local/g...7a4a78c22.html

Quote:
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- An Illinois House committee this afternoon advanced legislation that would allow residents of the state to carry concealed handguns.

The measure (HB148) now goes to the full House, where proponents believe it may have a chance of passage after years of falling short.

``The momentum has shifted,'' predicted National Rifle Association lobbyist Todd Vandermyde, after the 12-2 vote of the House Agriculture & Conservation Committee that advanced the bill.

Mark Walsh, campaign director for the Illinois Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, said he expected the bill to get out of committee. But he said he doesn't believe opponents will have as much momentum as they think, ``as local citizens start to hear about the fact that there are going to be concealed weapons on their streets. People aren't going to feel safe about that.''

Illinois is one of only two states that don't allow concealed carry today. The other, Wisconsin, allows ``open carry.''

Proponents are using two recent U.S. Supreme Court decisions in favor of gun-rights to bolster their argument. Opponents argue those decisions don't specifically prevent states from prohibiting concealed carry.

Testimony included Madison County State's Attorney Thomas D. Gibbons, speaking in favor of the bill. Gibbons said he was concerned for the ``the rights of law-abiding citizens to protect themselves and their families.''

Gibbons made his support conditional on adding a provision to the bill that would require people who are legally carrying concealed weapons to reveal that fact when they interact with police officers, a provision that the bill's sponsors say they will incorporate.

Opponents included Chicago clergyman Edward Preecher, who predicted mayhem from even well-intentioned citizens. ``Anyone who has fired a handgun knows how easy it is to miss the intended target.''

Here's to hoping it passes...

I'd like to go to the IGOLD rally in Springfield tomorrow, but can't because of work.

Vandermyde is a proper peice of shit.

I went to IGOLD, and vandermyde killed a carry bill that could have passed just because the NRA wasn't a sponsor.

The full house probably won't pass it, the senate won't, and no way in hell the Gov would. FWIW Rham Emanual has mad some pretty anti gun statments so I don't think that ownership in shicago is going to get any easier
