I got one for my 9 yr old son. Came in the mail this afternoon. Been used a few hours already, and puts a giant smile on the face. Its his first higher quality rc car, so I'm not a great resource for how it compares to other cars, but it is fun. Slower than I expected, tops out at maybe 8-9 mph ish, and is can crawl with enough torque to carefully climb stuff, although the optional low range kit would be fun in bigger rocks.

If you decide to buy one, go ahead and order an aluminum servo horn now. We are on the third plastic one in less than 24 hours. It's nice that Axial sends two extras, but the plastic ones just don't last long.

Maybe my kids just really hard on stuff, but now the steering servo has a stripped gear inside. Ordered a new servo. Hoping for more than 8 hours of run time from this one.

Yep, learning that for sure. This is a great learning tool for kids. Learn to treat things nicely, and learn to fix them when they break.

Is this the same part as used on Wraith?
Any other tips on upgrades for it? I was thinking of fitting the 2-speed transfer box.

I just ordered a Bomber (UK dealers selling them at dollar = pound prices) so orderd it off that internet auction site and saved money even with shipping costs.

Not sure what the wraith uses, but its just a 23 tooth aluminum servo horn. I don't think it needs the 2 speed case. Throttle control is very good, crawls easily.

First proper RC crawler, I had a Tamiya Hotshot years ago; the Bomber is lots more fun than that was. Like you say throttle control is excellent and we had a fun hour creeping over obstacles in the garden. It really needs a big area with lots of gnarly stuff to get the best from it though, hope it is dry this weekend!

Ordered one of these that is supposed to be delivered on Friday. First RC Crawler, so looking forward to learning the ins and outs of it.

I know I will need to upgrade stuff as I go, already ordered the aluminum servo horn when I placed my order, hope I picked the right one!

Also ordered 2 Venom 25C 2S 5000mAh 7.4V Hard Case LiPo batteries, a Hobbymate Duo Lipo charger, and Fireproof Lipo safe bag.

I already have in my "cart" the aluminum link set (part Axial AX31340) and the Rear Sway Bar set (Axial AX31331 and Axial AX31058)

Any other upgrades I should start adding to the "garage"?

Thanks in advance!

What batteries are you all running and what kind of run times are you getting?

And are these in the read to run version or your custom built ones?

I just picked up a RTR. With a 2S 4000mah it's pretty slow (maybe 10-12 mph) but will climb anything. I drove it for about 30 minutes mostly stop and go full throttle (covered about a 1.5-2 mile long trail I was walking)

If I was buying another, i'd have bought the kit version for the upgrades and to get better electronics from the get go. I've been out of the RC game for a while and mostly only dealt with nitro so the electronic side of things nudged me to get the RTR, and the initial up front costs vs the kit.

It's fun as is, but i'd like to see a little more speed out of it. For strictly crawling i doubt it'd be an issue.

I'm not expecting much from the low end stuff, but this is just for fun. I have the metal horn coming also. Like I said, upgrade as needed.

I'm just saying that you can expect the RTR servo to die the moment you bash it on something hard.

you may as well buy the upgrade and have it sitting unless you want to wait.

I've been really impressed with how capable the bomber is right out of the box. I haven't really bashed on it too hard, just lots of rock crawling. I'm only running 2S Lipo's, so it isn't very fast, but it can climb just about anything. I've started upgrading different things since I got the bomber a little over a month ago, and everything I've added has been a nice upgrade.

If you want to see a pretty good "budget build", search on youtube for Harley Designs Budget Bomber build. He has a lot of good ideas and his goal is to spend no more than $50 a week on upgrades. Sadly, I have spent far more than $50/week!

I do have a new servo ready to be installed, original is still going strong, but want to upgrade while the original is still working so I have an emergency back-up.
