Crawlers that also haul?
I've been tossing around the idea of a r/c crawler, maybe an axial, however I want something that can also be run around the yard at a decent speed, with a gearing change can I get decent speed out of a crawler? Basically I would like a KOH style r/c rig, any suggestions? Anybody make a two speed trans? It would be cool to be flying around the yard then stop and switch to low and crawl a pile of rocks. Any thoughts on radios? Motors? Speed controllers? Servos? I'm not looking to spend a fortune but I want to get set up right the first time. Am I better off starting with a 2.2 class or a super class?

there are a ton of different combos you can run. you can get the transmission from a tamiya highlift they are 3 speeds i believe. and you can get alot of ratios with the axial trans with different pinion and spur gears. from about 17:1 to around 70:1. if you want a good powerful brushed motor ive heard good about the 5 turn puller motors pretty fast and a ton of torque from a brushed motor

done that, my son has an axial tuber with a 7 turn cobalt puller, mine is identical but with a goat brushless system and mine will flat out spank his. also the brushless is way better on battery run time

I'm thinking that I will end up with an ax-10(the kit most likely) I'm thinking the goat brushless motor/speed controler, lipo batts, radio I'm not sure on, would a 3 channel be best so I can set it up for digs later on? Any thoughts on what radio/servo would be good, it dosen't have to be top of the line but I hate buying things twice, what's good and decently priced? Brewchief

the goat will scare squirrles but the 20tooth pinion gear or more will give them a run for their money. on the drive way i can pull wheely's, in the grass i can flip it with the gas, burning brodies in the smooth hard pack i can flop it ![]() lipo is the only way to go. the spektrum dx 3.0 is a nice 3 channel radio that comes with 2 recievers and 2 servo's.it will cost around 250 to 300, but is worth it. i don't know how good the servo's are that come with it cause i had a decent one already. now even with the speed it will crawl as slow and smooth as you want it to. most brushless motors will not be smooth at low rpm's but the goat is.

My buddy runs the goat brushless motor and the ESC combo you can buy, and it crawls and halls ass.
If you want a really nice 2 speed tranny, they make a 2 speed R2 front dig trans with 6:7:1 and 11.4:1 gear ratio. I use a single speed R2 front dig and the trans is all beef, never gave me problems. http://rc4wdstore.com/product_info.p...roducts_id=593 |

just do it......I have heard OK thinks about the goat but if you are serious about crawling/smoothness go brushed

So is your son's set up comparable with gearing and cell count (2s) or is he running a 3s? I'm considering both the goat and a MM with a 7T on 3s. I want the best of both worlds. Not so worried about the run time but that is an added bonus of the goat.

i think the squirels in my yard are more concerned with the sneaky cat than the toy that jumps into action with out notice.
