Thinking of building an ax10 completely out of aftermarket parts. It kind of makes sense considering I would be replacing all the stock parts anyway. I plan on building my own chassis and machined links, and buying most everything else. I have been out of the rc world for about ten years any tips or any one done this. I have been reading heavy over at RCCrawler so a tip to go read there is not nessacary.
Thanks Some white guy.

im buying locked axial axles and a tranny, then building a rig from there. ive decided to build a tacoma truggy to replicate my 1:1 truck(and even more evolution i plan to do on it eventually), but in 1/10 scale...ive got enough left of wheels, tires, shocks, etc left over from the other trucks to get a pretty good jump on it

that is what I did I never bought the kit, just got axles and made the rest myself..
for that matter I did the same thing with my WK based scalers my TXT based basher the only kits I have ever really bought was the TLTs just because it was cheaper to get the hole kit then to buy just the axles.. |

The kit can be cheaper to get everything together but you can buy just the essentials from ckrccrawlers.com. It seems pricey but if you price these parts out on sites or the ebay you'll come out more expensive than that. My wife bought me the RTR I used it for a while to get a sense of what I wanted and what worked then built a tuber. All I use now is the tranny, motorplate, slipper, spur, pinion, axles and the wheels.
It is cheaper to buy exactly what you need and since you have experience in the hobby that is good and puts you ahead. With that said crawling is different than other RC stuff, learning what works and what doesn't still takes a little "hands-on". You can't beat a kit for this experience, unless you've got a real generous buddy who will lend you his and then go from there. Be prepared to spend way more than you started out thinking you will. I know I have and I've got a ways to go still...

BRAKELINE... you can use the stuff for so much!!!
I have bought 1 kit in my crawling life and that was a PTI my wife bought me for xmas (I guess I actually didnt buy it) Ive built plenty of tubers from 3/16 line... also works great for links as it threads with a 6-32 tap then you just need some all thread and dubro rod ends. Comes out much stronger than the kit. Just a hint, get everything together before you start laying tube. |

I think I am going to by the kit and put it togther to play with and start another one from scratch at the same time. When the second one is done I will let my little one have it. Thanks for the responses.

then do what I would do take it apart first(I dont trust 7year old asian fingers myself).. once you end up buying all the parts that come on the ARTR you will kick yourself for not going that route first..
just the tires alone in the ARTR make it worth the 30 extra bucks, then you still get bent links straight rear axle, better lockers, and a couple other nice upgrades.. |

I am putting the kit toghter now lots of fun. How can there be a better locker? Also all the reading I have been doing on RCC, there are a bunch of pirate guys over there and vise versa.
